Emissions and fuel economy improvements over the last ten yeas have added way more than that to 2006 and newer C6s with the E38 PCM. In addition to the Mass Air Flow (MAF) Sensor, Manifold Air Pressure (MAP) Sensor, Throttle Position Sensor (TPS) this reference uses, the E38 PCM reads Intake Air Temp (IAT), Engine Coolant Temp (ECT), Oxygen content in the exhaust, Knock, adjusts for low octane fuel, backs off spark and fuel for auto tranny shifts or traction control, etc, etc, etc. Just $17 will get you a recent book on the subject -- I like Engine Management: Advanced Tuning by Greg Banish or you can read the FAQs at the HP Tuners or other PCM editor's forum. There is enough there to temporarily disorient any Mensa member.

Exactly! I'm sure our legislators keep all this in mind as they're drafting the CAFE standards.

Not that bad, actually. But I do this every day. As long as you play by the ECU's rules, it's fairly straight-forward. It gets significantly more difficult when people try to make up their own physics.
