Might not be what you're looking for, but if interested I wrote a little program to turn a laptop computer into a multi-lap-timer by running separate timers assigned to each number key across the top of the keyboard. The idea being that you have one person at trackside keeping lap times for a group of racers. It works, but your spotter has to be able to pick the cars out at a distance to be able to hit the keys reliably and get good times. Also an AC adapter for the computer helps a lot. I wrote it for use at motorcycle trackdays but cars should actually be easier because they're easier to spot. (and slower :jester !!!! kidding...)

HotLap is a bit out of my price range for the moment. I may just hard-mount my laptop or strap it down and build an RS232 button to place near the steering wheel. Hey, then I could write a TTS interface to speak the times at the completion of every lap. Hmmmmm... =)
