Default yaw sensor?

Hi,

Is there any reason I can't remount the yaw sensor to the tunnel to get it off the floor in the passenger area? Or mount it to the tunnel under the dash board? I carry junk to the track in the passenger side and when I work inside the car I always hit the sensor. I fear that one day I'll step on it and kill it.

As long as it is oriented correctly and mounded near the center of the car, you should be fine. I personally can't drive a car with AH/TC anyway!

Like the other guy said make sure you orient it the correct way otherwise you will have problems like I did. I mounted mine to the race seat rail and it now works fine now that it is oriented the correct way

I think I'd discuss with an engineer. It's placement is precise given the
software that uses the yaw measurement. The sensor itself is etched
quartz a couple of human hairs thick set on a pedestal with an epoxy
and depending on year is about 1/2"+ inch long in the shape of a double
ended tuning fork. That is on a substrate inside a small metal can. It
is sensitive to the vibration expected at the point it is mounted. Good
luck. Not sure I'd expect much from it if moved.

Thanks guys,

Maybe I'll just put a red firesprinkler cage over it. That will look cute.

Hah, neither can I .. I went to Bondurant a few weeks ago and drove his C6 auto cars. Probably the worst car I have ever driven on the track.. the electronic nanny does some scary things with throttle response for sure..

I believe in a C5 the Yaw Sensor is under the radio... while the Lateral G Sensor is under the passenger seat. (In a C6, Onstar is under the seat... but it looks like you have a C5).

I agree with the post above that moving the yaw sensor could throw off the yaw measurements as the SW has to assume (know) its position in the car to correctly calculate the car's 'rotation'.

But moving the lateral G sensor should not be big deal as long as you keep the orientation correct.

Thanks! you are correct. I did not know what I was doing and actually moved by Yaw sensor when I redid my dash for racing. It seems to work fine. I'll just leave the lat sensor alone and try not to break it with my giant feet or 5 gallon buckets for knees when I'm futzing around in the car trying to fix things.
