FWIW I use these alum ones from fleabay for my CCW's and I haven't had a problem yet, but I've only had them a couple of months.

Go to your local Chevy deal parts man, asking him if #1002-8615 has the longest shank. This would be for a C5 - Also - ask if C6 is the same...

Sounds like something "Mean Gene Culley" can answer....after all, he is the official unofficial "Chevy deal parts man" for the Corvette Forum

Race orgs like PCA, NASA, HSR etc.. won't allow aluminum lug nuts, Porsche's comes with Forged Aluminum and I had to swap for open ended steel, they need to be able to see the thread depth in nut for safety, closed ends hide it.

A whole bunch of us racers use the aluminum fleabay nuts in SCCA and NASA. They are totally obvious too because they are in anodized colors.

We us those nuts for 1 season then throw them away. We use those nuts because we take the wheels on and off so many cycles. We want to damage the disposable aluminum nuts and protect the steel studs. None of us have ever lost a wheel. I have never lost the torque on an aluminum nut either. YMMV

I have run a whole season on them and they work great. They are so light that, believe it or not, they actually started to roll away in the heavy winds we sometimes get at Auto Club Speedway. The car was on stands in the double doored garage and they started to blow away in the wind.

But they are strong enough that I actually broke a standard long GM wheel stud in August. I suppose that really probably is more of an indictment on the long GM wheels studs and that is why I replaced them all with ARPs.

Anyway....

I am still using these lugnuts with great success and confidence on both my Spec Corvette and my GT2 Corvette.

Are you replacing them every year like someone stated above?

Yes. I now keep a log and dozens of parts on my two race cars. Every time I take them out and accrue time on them I log it. My spreadsheet has replacement values for every part. When the accrued time crosses the set value it tells me to replace it preemptively.

When you get a lot of hours on a race car reliability goes way down. I got tired of finding out a part needed to be replaced on lap eight of a race. It is also much safer this way.

Question, the Steel torque is 100lbs, the aluminum state 60lbs, what are you using?
