C5Z Street/Track Tire
Ok, I know there have been a thousand threads on this issue for years but I've been out of it for awhile and haven't been on this forum for almost a year due to a minor issue of cancer. But now I'm back and I want to know what the current consensus is for a HPDE tire that I can use on the street. I want to just drive to the track, have fun and then drive home. No tire changes, trailers or any of that stuff. I've been an instructor for the NCM events for the past few years so I'm not a newbie and now I've relocated to LA. So I hope to be doing my first events at Buttonwillow or Willow Springs soon.
I noticed some people seem to like the NT05's for their C6's but they don't seem to be available in C5Z sizes.
Any advice would be appreciated.

I was wondering why I had not heard from you in a while. You instructed me at Putnam Park a couple of years ago. I remember the ride you gave me in your FRC with nearly bald tires!
I just bought a set of these tires

I've got 18 inch CCW wheels all around and wanted something for track and street as I'm not ready for 'race' tires. I was just at an event at Barber and I was real happy with these tires. On the last session my instructor drove my car and toasted everybody on the track. That taught me that it's not always about the the car, but the 'skill behind the wheel'.
Glad to hear from toy again!

Thanks for the welcome! I won't be out there this weekend but I will definitely get a schedule and figure out what events are going on. I'll be excited looking forward to meeting you then. I'd love to get connected with the locals here.

Yes, it's all about seat time and developing your skills. That's why I've never really felt the need to make the car faster. I can learn driving skills with streets or R compounds. It doesn't really matter. I'm sure that you have improved immensely since I've seen you.
Good luck and I hope to see you again.

A friend of mine & pretty good driver still runs the GY Supercars on his C5 Z06 after extended experimentation with others including Nittos. In fact, he disliked the Nittos.
I have a C6 Z51 and corded the Supercars in the front and ran with Dunlop Direzza Star Specs up front and Supercars in the back. It worked well.
If I were driving your car, I'd do the Dunlops in the front and Michelins in the back.
This year I will be running a Dunlop / Bridgestone combo for DD, rain, and if I'm too lazy to put on my Hoosiers and want to "arrive and drive".

I've been using the nitro R2/ Toyo ra1 family of tires for years to " arrive and drive ".
they are not Hoosiers, but I believe they are the only tires you can drive and don't seem to loose any grip due to heat cycling.
Better than any street tire. IMHO I don't know why people run anything stickier than these for just a de.

I got 2 track weekends and over 10k or street miles out of them. Good street tire.
