HAHA!! Love it. What would have been more entertaining is to have seen you, Gary, as the instructor. The student wouldn't have made it through the first sentence!

That made the rounds of my instructor friends a little while ago...we've all run into students like that at one time or another ...that's when I'm happy that I'm not Chief Instructor, as I immediately pass a guy like that up to him for a decision...

I had this guy who had a new Viper 'vert that is a construction Boss and he is not used to taking instruction. He is doing tank slappers into each corner, is "driving" with one hand with the other on the shifter and will not let go of that $%&%ing shifter. He won't do anything I tell him, and I am frightened for my life in this 'vert, literally. So I tell (not ask) him to pull in and I get out and let the Steward know that I am done with this guy. They get on the radio to control and say that the Viper needs a new instructor and control says, "get Gary Hoffman to do it, he is used to big fast cars", and when they heard that I was the one that wanted out, they said, Oh, ummm, I guess Bill (owner of SCDA and Chief Instructor with 40 years of Can-Am, etc experience) has to then.

Why is it that these guys always seem to be driving Vipers? Actually, the one I had was driving a 911 Turbo, and it was the same deal...he wouldn't listen, drove with his hand on the shifter (like he had to strangle the damn thing), and his heavy breathing told me he was waaay over his head...that's actually the first thing I listen for over the intercom, the heavy breathing, which then clues me to watch for the death grip on the steering wheel...that's time to take it into the pits for a chat...

A buddy of mine, with whom I teach the classroom for NOR PCA at Mid-Ohio, will give a problem student a punch to the side of the helmet to get their attention...I never tried that one...yet...
