FS: C4 Custom-Made Track-Car Dash
While I was building my C4, I set out to do something different with the dash. I wanted a firm-mounted sturdy, yet light face that I could mount all of my gauges and switches into, but I wanted a removable top to allow better access to the parts and wires behind. Here is my solution.
The front is one piece aluminum, and I have it attached to the car at four points. It is sturdy, doesn't flex, and doesn't rattle. The top is a one-pieces cap that is molded to a factory early C4 dash pad, so it fits the car exactly. It is held to the face with 5 quick release fasteners and the more forward section is just jammed in-between the windshield and firewall with a rubber weatherstripping to keep it still and quiet. It also isn't going anywhere, and does not create a glare like a sheet metal dash will.
I had to buy a 4x8 sheet of aluminum to have the face cut out of. The water-jet company was able to get four faces from that sheet. I went ahead and had them cut out all four so I could sell the extras to try to recoup some of my expenses in this process.
Since I now had four faces, I had accu-form plastics custom mold four top caps for me. They actually had to modify their molds to make them solid, since the ones they sell through Ecklers, etc. have molded holes for the speakers and defroster. I had to pay them to modify the mold, so it didn't matter if they were making one or fifty.
So, now I have three spare blank dashes for sale.
The weights of the blank ones are:
Aluminum face: 5 lb / 13.2 oz
Plastic cap: 2 lb / 6.3 oz
Those weights are for just the blank dash with no holes cut out and no attaching hardware.
I am not selling these as bolt in kits. Some fabrication on your part will be necessary to mount it. I will show you how I mounted mine. You can copy that or come up with your own method. The cut out for the steering column will fit around the stock '94 column. I assume it will fit earlier columns as well, but can not verify.
Here is what you will get if purchasing one dash: 1 blank aluminum face with no holes, and 1 molded top cap.
Please note that these are track-car parts, not car show pieces. They have scratches, etc as shown in the pictures. You could polish it, but I think that would create too much of a glare. You could also rough it up and paint it. I'm sure they would look good in black, silver, or even white. The top caps are all still wrapped in plastic, and in new condition. I have had these parts in storage for 3 years now.
I am asking a very fair $250 for each set (1 face / 1 top), plus shipping. I only have three. The one in the car is not currently for sale.

The pictures from here down are just to show how I chose to mount mine. You can copy this if you like or mount them however you wish. These pictures below are for informational purposes only. The mounting materials shown are not included with the dash. The aluminum bars, L-brackets, and corner brackets can be purchased at Lowes or Home Depot. The quick release fasteners can be purchased from Summit, Jegs, etc.

Just bought an 89 roller, and would like to have a set, however, I can fabricate a sheetmetal dash fairly cheaply... I know that you have quite a bit invested, and wonder what bottom dollar would be?
Thanks,
Fred

My price is fair considering how much I have in these, and how difficult they are to safely ship. If you are willing to come pick one up and pay in cash, then I'll knock $50 off.
My solution provides a superior final product when compared to a sheetmetal dash.
- More sturdy structure to mount gauges, switches, etc too
- doesn't get as hot
- far less windshield glare
- overhangine lip provides shade for gauges (great on bright days)
- easier to remove and service wires or parts behind dash
- and it just look better

Down to my last blank dash now. I will not be making any more, so this is the last blank one.
I also have the one out of my track car available now. It has the holes in it already.
