A good excuse to call in sick - East Coast Supercharging HPDE Day at NJMP
#21
I was there last weekend and my helmet does not have a shield. The track folks do not do teching, it's the club. The Porsche club did not care if I had a shield and I ran all weekend without one.

I think eye protection has always been the law, but here is what was in the 2011 bylaws:
13:62-3.6 helmets and eye protection - all drivers shall wear properly secured, full face helmet, with face shield, which meets or exceeds Snell M or SA. Fire resistant head sock is recommended to be worn with full face helmet and shield. Open face helmets and goggles shall be prohibited.
When it was written it was applied to all track events, but we were at NJMP this week and were told that they made a last min change for HPDEs and there were still going to allow open face helmets because the state didnt give enough time for people to buy closed faced helmets.

Just got back from NJMP thunderbolt. Track is in good condition although getting bumpy in certain places.
A friend and I worked together and I was able to put down my fastest lap time at NJMP.
Looking forward to more days there and hopefully improving some more.

The group we ran with this week (trackdaze) had a writtten exception to the full face helmet rule. Any car that was a primarily streeet car, with working front airbags could use an open face helmet. Its best to check with the organization you're running with ahead of time.

UPDATE - NJMP has received a waiver from the NJ State Police for 2011 to permit OPEN FACE HELMETS in cars equiped with ACTIVE AIR BAG SYSTEMS participating in HPDE events. FULL FACE HELMETS are still required in cars WITHOUT ACTIVE AIR BAG SYSTEMS.
Oh and there is no rule on shieds being necessary - unless you are running an open cockpit car.....

I'll be there Sun with my son and a buddy and his son. I didnt buy the VIP tix or anything, just be walking around enjoying the exhaust fumes and smell of rubber ...
I ran the chicane for the first time with BMW CCA on 6/6-6/7. I liked it. It's challenging to do it right ... the first right/left combo is tighter than it looks and it's a balance to go in slow enough that you can stay left and go WOT as soon as possible through the right hander onto the back straight. If I went in too fast and wound up further right I had to nurse it through the last part.

As far as times I think Rolex runs 1:15 and GT runs 1:21. With the help of traqmate data I have put down a best lap of 1:33.6. I am looking for a 1:32.x this year but still way out of their league.
Maybe it is time to gut my car
