C5 front brake upgrade question
Other than LG's G-stop wilwood kit, who else makes a similar brake upgrade for the C5-Z06 that won't break the bank?

Check with Gary at Hardbar and ask about his AP T1 setup. I have his 2pc. rotors and they are nice. I don't know about the calipers since I have the SL6's already.

The Harbar AP front setup is ~$2600 (including the trick 2-piece rotors). At first you might think this is a "bank breaker" but when you look at the big picture for either the AP or the Willwood kit things are more rosey:
- Both fit under 17" fronts
- Both use cheap (a relative term) pads - half the cost of equivalent pads for the OE calipers
- The pads last a lot longer because there is no taper, no need to swap them around every session
- The AP rotors are top notch and last a long time (I think I have ~7 days on mine now and they are still in fantastic shap: typical spidering but no real cracks). Can also get 2 piece rotors for the Willwood.
- The confidence they inspire is priceless (:-)
A cheaper "upgrade" for the C5 is to use the base C6 calipers - they are stiffer and apparently as a result pads will last a lot longer.

There is not much else around that will fit within the stock 17" front wheels. There are a couple of other 4 piston caliper setups such as the SSBC one, but they do not provide as much stopping power. In terms of bang for the buck, the LG kit is the way to go. To get any more stopping power, you have to go to 18" wheels and something like the StopTek BBK at 2 1/2 - 3X the money.

I just bought the AP kit without rotors it was $1,600. I'm using the stock rotors. Gary's 2-piece rotors are really nice, but I can't afford them yet.
They worked great at Blackhawk & Autobahn CC. I'm looking forward using them at Road America.

We ran an SL4R (wide) on the front of sperkin's ST2/PTA C5 this past weekend at Road Atlanta and it did very well. A nice "budget" caliper that you can put 20mm pads in. I had some 7320 "A" pads from ~9 yrs ago we actually ground the crossbolt ears off and dropped them right in.

I believe the LG kit uses the SL6 Wide but it is lug mounted.
These are the official specs for the SL6R "narrow" caliper which comes with Wilwood's standard kit.
Calipers:
Info / Part Number:
Left Hand - Part No: 120-8001-RS
Right Hand - Part No: 120-8000-RS
Type: Billet Narrow Superlite 6R
Finish Color: Black Powder Coat
Piston Count: 6
Piston Area (In²): 4.04
Piston Type: Stainless
Mount Type: Radial
Brake Pad Plate: 7416
Brake Pad Area (In²): 8.2
Brake Pad Volume (In³): 3.8
Pad Compound: BP-10

LG uses an SL6 Wide-5 caliper; it's a slightly narrowed outboard body to aid wheel clearance, but it's capable of running a 7420 pad. I'm probably wrong, but I thought Wilwood referred to the 7416-using SL6 radial mount as an SL6 rather than SL6R, but like I said, I'm probably wrong. I'm pretty sure the body is labelled SL6, though.

My LG SL6 setup does take 20MM pads and will work fine with OEM Z06 wheels. However, CCW classic and motorsport aftermarket wheels DO require a spacer. I subsequently bought Hardbar's AP T1 two piece rotors and they fit exactly as OEM rotors requiring no shim adjustment on the caliper bracket.
If I were to start all over, I would go with Hardbar's setup, his AP T1 setup has a couple of nicer features over the SL6's including anti-knock back springs. Besides, I have ALWAYS enjoyed every business transaction with Gary. The price is comparable to the SL6 kit. The 2pc. rotors are pricey, as we all know, so don't let that fool you into thinking the kit is so expensive. If you buy only the calipers, pretty much same price.
