Default GT Racing Tires fall stock up!

It's that time of the year. Most of us around the country will be putting away our cars or working on upgrades for the winter.

As many already know scrubs are getting harder to get so why not stock up now for next year. Last week we went thru our inventory and tossed over 150 tires due to old date codes. Many of the tires were like new but just had a code of 2007 or older. Most tires are 100.00 each plus shipping. The pirelli 305/685/18 are 60.00 each.

ok, help a brotha out. I am new to the turning thing and unsure of what I need as far as tires go. Autocross mostly, maybe a day of track time coming up but more concerned with autox for now. 99 FRC on a 17/18 stagger but I do have a full set of 17s and a full set of 18s I could run with the right tires. what do I need here?

Run regular street tires.

I need some Hoosier R6 tires. What kind of life is left in these "scrubs". I've been afraid of buying scrubs "sight unseen" because of a bad experience a buddy had. It wasn't with your company - it was one of your competitors.
I need some 295/35/17 and 315/30/18

Hopefully one of the C5 guys will chime in but in my opinion the Khumo 710 or Hoosier A6 will wake the handling up.
Eithe the 17 or 18 will be fine for you.

DUDE,

1st, I'm 24, what bearing does that have on the situation? Get your age comments the hell outta here.

Here's what you need to do, go step up and buy some D2 slicks, and then go ***** to the walls. I'll have the popcorn for when you lose control. If you had a REAL question about tires, you wouldn't come into a thread selling such tires that given your comment, would with absolute certainty exceed your skill level.

Moral to the story, there's a reason that people tell you to run street tires. It's so you don't come shiny side up and develop a Hero complex. That's called experience and a lot of people in this section have it. For pete's sake, go look into some R888's or some street-able tire if that'll give you enough peanuts to satisify ya.

I sort of agree with OKsweetrides but with a little less attitude.

The first thing you need to do Alludc is learn how to drive the car and without the help/hindrance of sticky tires. When you can out drive the street tires then it's time to move up .... not before.

24 is exactly why I said hit the camaro boards.

to be more specific, im new to 'turning' in a c5. I have 10+ yrs of autox experience in a variety of rwd cars some of which with more grunt. Also run road races on my r1. now that thats all cleared up, this will be the 1st car I choose to run a dedicated race tire on rather than sit in street class, plus some road events at our newly reopened arizona motorsports park. Dont worry, I was 24 and on the fbody boards once too.... lose the attitude.

Since you've said your new to turning in a C5, here's some recommendations that other vette folks will encourage:
1) Running a street tire for a while will let you feel the faint oversteer that these cars can exhibit when hitting turns great without the snap loss that say a R6 will have if things get mis-calculated.
2) Slicks/stickies cover up an insane amount of mistakes, and known mistakes that bite are good learning. Sure slicks are sexy for lap times, but then we'd all have GTR's too
3) Since you said that your going to AX before Track, be wary that you may be disappointed with the car and that it's not performing to par; don't be discouraged because a vette is a bit of a sledgehammer personality for autocrosses that trend towards the tighter and sub 80mph range. You'll quickly prefer track time.

btw, not to many camaro boards have as much track dedication as this one.

In a year or two, depending on how much you track, there's no reason why you shouldn't be comfortable in tackling the challenges of say a 285/645 and 325/650.

Apologies to OP

Been to two autox in the frc so far. both times bone stock on the stock tires. on a 40-45 sec course, I was able to manage to be no more than a second off the a stock guys on their race tires. While I understand the learning curve of having street tires, I feel like im ready to get in the ring and box. May not have the c5 fully understood just yet, but very comfortable in my abilities. Also I have made it out for a few road laps last week and was very impressed on how far I could push the car on Firestones, but was aching for just a touch more grip

Regarding tires for autocross: Either the racing slicks or the A6 would be the way to go, assuming enough skill to use them. Reason: You need tires that are ready right now, not two laps from now. That means street tires (which are bad, but no worse then two laps from now) or slicks or A6 which are ready to go right now, and require crazy low pressure to work on a road course over a 20 minute session.

Back to original topic: Who has experience buying from this entity? I'm looking for a good place to get scrubs, and need references. Thanks.

Racing slicks not that good of a choice, they need a little heat(a roadrace lap or 2) to get sticky; A6's are the way to go.

I have bought quite a few from them, they always come though, they ship fast and tires are as described

Todd is a good guy and stands behind what he sells.

BTW I'm 32. That seems to be important to some in this thread...

Getting low on Pirelli 285/6415/18. Get them while you still can.

Do you want to be able to drive to your events on your track tires, or are you going to trailer them there?

If driving, then the options amongst these scrubs would be the R888s. I would suggest running 18s on all 4 corners, 305s all around.

If you want to trailer them, then you need to determine how abrasive your surfaces are. An A6 tire will cord pretty fast if you're on a rough surface, but will have a lot of grip and will last quite a while if you're on a smooth, slippery surface.

HTH, and have a good one,
Mike
