The simple solution is to register it up in MAINE. ~$25, and it's done, with a license plate and everything. No matter where you live.

Take notice of tractor trailers. 95% of them are registered in MAINE for this very reason.

I've been dealing with the SCDMV for years. I had the same problem with my trailer a few years ago and I bought it in SC! Got upset at the DMV office and rode about 20 miles to another and was out WITH my title in about 20 minutes. Also picked up a Permanent tag for $95 so now I have a title and a tag forever!
So the moral is find the right DMV office!
