Default Fat Guy needs help.

Sorry this isn't a seat thread.

I'm a big guy, 5'10" 270 lbs. I'm looking for a racing suit to fit me. I'd like to have a 3-layer suit that's FIA rated. I'll be racing in wheel to wheel with SCCA and possibly NASA as well. I'm looking to spend $700-800 on the suit. I see Safe Racer has a Sparco suit on a heck of a sale, but the biggest size is a 64. I know Sparco is more geared toward skinny Italians. Does anyone know if this will fit or do they know of a brand that's more towards fat guys like me?

Thanks all.

Best bet is to find someone close that stocks the suits and try it on. I think my Sparco is a size 60 and I am 5'11" 235 and it fits fine. Little long in the legs but not an issue

Drive up to OG racing in Springfield and try everything on. I'm 6'4" 240 and have a G-force XXXL that fits pretty good, but it'd probably be too tall for you.

I haven't purchased from them but it would be good to know why we should stay clear of the place.

I 100% agree. Can you elaborate?

Basically it was customer service from the importer, who handles all the transations & communications with overseas. There was a problem, the local dealer was behind me 200%. The main importer who is located in Georgia couldn't care less (2 women sitting in an office)..... Refused to acknowledge the problem, or acknowledged the problem, and said "too bad"... in not so many words.

I've had 100% satisfaction with SIMPSON ever since.

I'm the same size as you and had to have one custom made. The first suit was too short on the inseam and rode up into the family jewels something fierce. I'm waiting on the replacement now.

They still have that suit they originally made for me but if you are pretty much the same dimensions as me so it would likely ride up as well. It was ok sitting in the car, it was walking around that made it a bit of an issue.

I ended up picking up a Sparco X-Light Evo-3 from SafeRacer in size 64. It fits pretty well, and isn't as long as I thought so I won't need to have it shortened. It is a little tighter in the abdomen area, but some exercise can fix that! lol It's not uncomfortable tight though. I may eventually end up getting one custom made one day.

They have a nice selection of seats and suits and are great folks to deal with.

The Simpson warehouse is <20 miles from me...I went and tried mine on before taking it home.

Just as an FYI...I went with a 2-piece suit vs. a single piece. I wanted to be able to take the jacket off between rounds so I didn't cook. I always thought it looked hokey walking around with the arms of the suit tied around the waist.

The price was about the same, I think there was a $50 difference when I got mine...so in the end it's what you are looking for in the long run.

I just did the Simpson custom configurator...a basic suit no frills was ~$800 (size didn't matter). They have a sheet for you to measure yourself, then send it in and they make the suit to fit.

I looked into the custom suits. It typically adds $200-300 for a custom suit, depending on what materials you use. It's all relative. I wasn't looking for anything cheap, but nothing astronomical price-wise. I think I got a good deal on a 3 layer suit.
