Which size tie down straps
I am looking to tie down a C5z using t hooks. The trailer is a trailex 8045. Total distance between the anchors is about 18-19 ft. I plan to cross the straps.
Should 10 ft straps be sufficient? I would think so, but am looking for confirmation.
Thanks

Dom, you only need about two wraps around the racket spindle and a little extra. I'm not sure how long my rear straps are, but I really need to cut them shorter. Good luck w/the trailer

p.s. - I'm headed back to NJMP with TrackDaze Mon/Tue, but you'll probably be there Sunday - ? Trying to get a couple more days in this season !!

That's what I bought, good folks. When I rented the trailer the owner of the business said that while you can cross both ends the most important is to cross the rear. I think I may have ended up crossing both as well as it was just easier for routing the straps but definitely crossed the rears. Car & trailer were both rock steady.

Leave enough extra on the front and back straps to allow moving the car to distribute the weight on the trailer.
15% of the weight on the tongue might require moving the car forward or backward to achieve that balance.

Thanks. I think I will do 10 ft with the twisted snap links and forged T hook. Sounds like that should be long enough to move the car around a little to get the right balance.

I have the flat hook. The twisted hook will beat a hole in the floor of the trailer since it will orient 90* to the floor. I used the twisted ones until I discovered what was happening, then I changed to the flat hook.

Also look at the weight ratings of the straps. Straps can be rated as 5000 lbs or 10,000 lbs. But the important number is the Working Load Limit or "WLL" This value is about 1/3 of the strap rating.
So a 5000 lb strap has a WLL of about 1667 lbs and a 10K strap has a WLL of about 3300 lbs. I use the 10K straps for my car. The price difference between the two ratings are not really a lot and they can be found at a variety of places.
Using a twisted snap hook or a flat hook depends on how the trailer floor ring is sitting and how the T-hook hole is sitting. You do not want the strap to be twisted at all, not even a 1/4 turn as that can eventually weaken the strap.
Many strap suppliers sell the strap separately from the ratcheting part so you can buy a twisted hook for the strap and a flat hook for the ratchet side.
