I swear I searched everywhere for an answer, and keep getting conflicting information. I am running SSP for a second year and it's time for tires. I was on a set of Kuhmo 275 fronts and 295 rears. I'm going with Hoosiers, running stock 17/18 front/rear rims. I need to know the max size tires I can run for best traction without modifying the fenders on my '04 C5 Z06. Any help from someone who has run the size they are suggesting would be greatly appreciated.

Before anyone suggests other rims or anything like that, know that next year will be a different setup. I ran this car for the first time last year and finished 2nd overall in pax for my region (several top 5 national drivers), but feel like I am still learning the car. Before I go investing in coilovers, aero, rims, etc, I want to learn the car some more. I also have a cash shortage due to a new job and move eating up my funds.

On stock rims, 295 f/315 rear, no rubbing issues.

If running bigger wheels, I run 18x10.5 C5Z06 wheels in front w/ 315's, 18x12 aftermarket wheel in rear w 335's. Some rubbing on front at full steering lock, some rubbing on inner fender in back.

or, 18x10.5 rear Z06 wheels on all four corners with 315's, once again some minor front rubbing at full lock.

My friend and I are running 315/35/17 on front 17x9.5 C5Z06 rims. The rear we are running 335/30/18 on stock 18x10.5 C5Z06 rims. Hoosiers A6. No problems with anything. We run SS.

Excellent. Thank you for the responses. Steve, did you have to change any of the setup/spacers or anything with that setup? I'm at stock ride height, so everything should have clearance.

Those wheels are really narrow for those tire sizes. I don't remember anybody running those on stock rims. But it has been 5 years since I ran SS. If it works

I want to make sure I know the full tire sizes. You are referring to 295/35/17 fr and 315/30/18 in the rear, correct?

No spacers. Just stock rims, bolted up.

I've definately seen these tires (A6s) on the stock rims, but I'm not convinced they are any faster than the usual 295/315 setup and it's more expensive.

You can shove a lot of A6 on to a rim and make it work, but other tires don't respond as well to being put on a smaller rim. Softer side walls I guess. FWIW

I got my car (Kao's old Chicken) with the 315/335 combo for SS. I had never driven this combo before but I can say it seems to handle a lot more slip angle than the 295/315 combo. However you gain a lot of track width as I was told to use the 5mm spacers all around or it would rub and the car already has ARP studs. I would run this setup in SSP but with proper sized wheels I think.

The car is SSP because I had to put a different seat in it so I could fit without tilting my head sideways. It also has headers, intake, and HFC. To my knowledge, that's all that has been done to it. I would gladly run SS if I could, but I can't fit with the stock seat.

That being said, I did pretty well last year on a set of 4 year old Kuhmo's that were in pretty poor shape, especially for having never driven RWD competitively. I think the gradual approach to improving things on my car will help me recognize the increased performance capabilities as I go, and will make me a better driver.

295 front (or 285) on 10.5 and 335 rear on 12.0. They stick out & will rub the fenders if you are low and/or if you have soft springs shocks.

Wow, some autox cars never die. I remember that car when it was Matt's, he couldn't get the aftermarket shifter **** off so they had to change the stock rules to allow aftermarket ***** to keep it legal...still have that ****?

It had some kind of adapted C6 shift **** on it and a lot of old epoxy. I got rid of all that and it has the C5R delrin shift **** I prefer (New Mexico sun + metal = Indiana Jones style hand marks).
