Default Stoptechs installed :)

I finally installed my Stoptechs and thought others would like to see the before and after pictures and hear some of my observations.

This is what they look like when they arrive

Here are the before and after shots of the front

And the rear…

Here is a picture showing the difference between the Z51 pads and the Stoptech pads

I was prepared to trim the A arms…but, I was surprised how much trimming was required…Here are the before and after pictures

Looks sweet!

Why did you need fo trim the a-arm? Are the rotors that much bigger?

Looks good Charley. Now get some real brake pads in those calipers.

To clear the bigger calipers, the whole StopTech kit moves the rotor/caliper assembly a bit closer to the A-arm, resulting in that required trimming.

I did install StopTech kit on my Z06 as well, and FYI, I also did have to trim as much as you've shown in the pics. I've been using this set-up for a few months now, and have not had any issues so far.

The rotors are thicker and the rotor plane is moved inboard. I would estimate the inner rotor surface to be about .25" inboard of the stock rotor. This also required trimming my spindle ducts. I knew trimming was required, but, I got a little concerned with how muh trimming I had to do. I called Stoptech and they confirmed that it was fine. They also suggested that I call LG because they have a lot of "in service" experience. LG confirmed that this amount of trimming was fine and they said that they have never seen any issues from the trimming.

The wheels are stock C6 Z06 wheels. My car is a little unusual in that it is a Z51, but it has Z06 body panels, wheels, springs, shocks, and sway bars.

Why Stoptech as opposed to Wilwood, Baer, Brembo, Hardbar?

It is rally a pesonal choice because all of those companies make great products. I wanted the performance of a true big brake kit, so that ruled out Baer and Wilwood (no offense to anyone that has those products). I also wanted to have a full kit that was balanced front to back...so that eliminated Hardbar. Also, my car is a dual use car that sees street and track use and because the current hardbar's are a full floating rotor they would be very noisy driving around town. So that narrowed the choice between Stoptech and Brembo.... Both seemed to have similar performance but the Stoptechs had a lower purchase and operating cost. So that is why I purchased the Stoptechs.
