Default GM original vs, ACDELCO

Looking at brake lines & GM original are 2x (approx) ACDELCO.

Different part #'s

Why?

I don't believe AC Delco is GM.

Even if they are OEM supplier the OEM group cannot share drawings and specs with aftermarket engineering.

In the case of rotors GM rotors are made in Brazil. AC Delco rotors are made in China.

I suspect they're probably the same thing. Below is a picture - it's not a brake line, but brake pads for the rear of my ZR1:

You can see that there's a GM part# and a different ACDelco 3, and also a Brembo #.

Take a look at the Rock Auto link - do a search for C7 parts, then search for "brake hose":

http://www.rockauto.com/?a=G-autoparts

You can see that they indicate that the rear hoses that have an ACDelco # are said to be the same as the GM #.

ACDELCO Part # 1761816 {#20988187} GM Original Equipment
Rear Left; HD Antilock Brakes(J56), HD Antilock Brake Sys(J57)

$21.79

ACDELCO Part # 1761817 {#20988188} GM Original Equipment
Rear Right; HD ABS(J56), HD ABS(J57)

$28.79

I wouldn't have a problem buying the part with either a GM # or an ACDelco #.

Same thing with the oil filter - I get the ACDelco ones and they are the same as one you get from a dealership or other GM/Chevy parts source.

Here is an interesting thread I came across

http://www.gminsidenews.com/forums/f...me-oem-111176/

I guess it "depends".

I am going to try the acdelco brake lines.

Interesting reading the discussion in that link you posted - I guess it sure does "depend", and I guess we can never be sure!

Seems that the only thing we can depend on is the likely-hood that
we are being screwed!

I would expect it's the same for most parts, until the car gets older. When the OEM manufacturers stop production or go extinct, the parts are replaced by off-shore stuff.

But those same AC Delco boxes will be printed and waiting to be filled.
