Any tips on which hotels to stay around Gingerman Raceway for best track access and decent food? Any great must try food out there like an awesome burger place or chicago pizza to die for?

My wife and I go to South Haven every year or two for a bed and breakfast weekend.
Fav restaurants include Clementines for their perch and tower of onion rings, Maria's for their Italian food and selection of root beers, and Taste for a small plate assortment. Very touristy during the summer, so take that into account for ease of dining.
For completeness' sake, I should've just posted . . .
There are several "chain" motels in South Haven. Hampton Inn, Holiday Inn Express, Comfort Suites come to mind. They're all in the same general area, about ten minutes from the track and about three to five minutes from "downtown" South Haven.
As I posted previously, that area is very popular with visitors during the summer, so plan accordingly.

I haven't been there yet but we're racing there at the end of August, would love to hear your thoughts on the new surface, it looks awesome in videos
We usually camp at the track though we have stayed at the "chains" ones along the freeway on Phoenix Rd in the past. They're the closest to the track and not too touristy. As for "must have" food, we haven't found anything. Like the guys said above, it's a tourist town so getting dinner on a weekend night in the summer means that you're eating late just to get a table somewhere. Phoenix St Restaurant or The Thirsty Perch (known as The Dirty Perch to locals) are our usuals though last time the guys were there they had issues at The Perch and swore they'd never go back.
Other than Sherman's Dairy Bar, I haven't found much to really recommend. If there was some fantastic Chicago pizza, I'd like to know since we typically end up at the same couple of places.
Clementines is OK, but I would not wait more than ten minutes. It's not that great. Taste down the street toward the lighthouse has small plates and is pretty decent.
Captain Lou's is a dive bar on the river. I like it on a hot summer night. My wife would not eat there....
Aside from 3Balls events and LeMons races, my wife and I spend at least one weekend a summer in South Haven. If you like fine Italian, Tello Italian Bistro is the wife's favorite place. Black river tavern has good food and a pretty good beer selection. A good breakfast & lunch place is Cousin's just north of town (Blue Star Hwy & North Shore Drive). I agree Clementine's is overrated and Taste is pretty good as well. The Thirsty Perch used to be a favorite but it seems to be pretty hit or miss lately.
I just finished gingerman. The track seems short and keeps you busy. There is almost no rest. Straights are short. The track surface perfect. SCCA track records all fell this weekend despite less than perfect temps for making power. I'm guessing the track is 2 sec faster than the average scca track record in many classes. The track is really fun lots of passing areas. Shermans was an evening highlight. After a warm day on track that ice cream is so rich none of us ate dinner. Thanks for the tip.
