Default Stock Tire Wear on the Track ... Photos Attached

I have a 2015 C7 with Z51, Magnetic Ride Control and stock Michelin Pilot Super Sport tires. No changes have been made to the stock alignment.

The car and tires have about 6000 total miles. I have done eight track days with it ... so around 800 track miles. All of them at VIR ... 6 days on the full course and two on the north course.

The front left always gets the best workout at VIR and I did rotate the left and right sides with tires getting about equal time on both sides. The outside edges/shoulders get abused on the track, like always with a stock alignment.

Take a look at the photos. My question is how much life do these have left? I have a two-day event in November and that is it for this year. Will these make it easily for two more days on the track?

I have not run these tires before on any of my past cars, so I don't have any experience with them. Could use some educated/experienced advice. Thanks!

IMHO those tires do not have two more days in them. You are going to be into the outside cords in short order. Don't screw up your weekend by cording a tire early on - get new rubber !
If you are going to continue to track the car, I would get an alignment like the one Pfadt recommends for a street / track driven car. Much better compromise and you will get a lot more wear from that expensive rubber.

I would have already done it, but you may be able to scrape by in doing so now.

I really think they are done. I would do one day maybe? Defiantly not 2.

Even if you have not worn the tread out, they have to be heat cycled beyond what is going to give you optimum grip. I find my tires start losing grip after 5 or so track days no matter what the tread depth is. Tempted to have my next set shaved to save life on heat cycles.

You know, those tires look like they were over inflated too. See how they didn't roll over all the way?

The sidewalls on the run-flats are really pretty stiff. Normal street inflation is 30 PSI ... although I now understand that GM says 35 PSI is normal for street (likely for better gas mileage).

I usually started at about 28 PSI cold on track days and would be at about 38 PSI after a 30 minute session in the summer with hot temperatures and track. Probably will start a pound or two lower on the next ones.

I used Michelin PSS tires in the Mobil 1 Time-Attack series in Canada this past season. For me they were remarkably resistant to heat cycling out (but frankly were slower than the Rivals and Hankook RS3s I have used in the past which DID heat cycle out). OTOH, your tires are shot due to the lack of camber so they would be pretty iffy for a track day or two.

Those tires have between 1 and 2 track sessions left (1/2 day).

They also show insufficient camber.

Every tire is different, but a decent rule of thumb is 1psi per 100# of car. I'm guessing that car is 3500-3600 with driver. I ignored tire pressures on my Z06 and ended up around 40 hot with my NT05s and they killed the centers QUICK. It wanted closer to 32psi hot to roll over all the way to the arrow tips. My Z06 is a little under 3300 with driver and a full tank of fuel.

I've run those tires twice at Spring Mountain in 2014 and 2015. And the wear similar to yours. I believe all of the cars are setup with Stock adjustments. Don't know what pressures the use.

The first photo is from 2015 - temps were in the 80's. The car was not Magnetic ride.

The second photo is my non-RF PSS with -1.5 degrees of camber. Left side of photo is outside of the tire. This was off the LR which takes abuse.

It's not hard at all to add more front camber, you will get WAY better tire wear and more front grip.

I'd flip them on the wheels and not even worry about a 2 day event. I've run tires that look a lot worse. But, run them much longer as is and you'll cord that shoulder.

Any interest in getting a more track oriented alignment? Camber doesn't add much tire wear like toe does. Why not run some more negative camber all around?

See how you are not wearing the very outside, but just a tiny bit to the inside you have lots of wear? That makes me think you are rubbing the body or fender liner. Plus the polished look makes me think that too.

I agree with the others you do need more camber.
