If things work out well for me I plan to be there as well. As a side bar have you guys heard that they will be repaving in some for during the month of July.

To our valued Track Renters:

VIR will be performing track maintenance this summer, tentatively from June 29th - July 31st. Those groups who have been issued Track Rental Agreements with VIR still have firm event dates. Those with dates that are traditionally held during our tentative closure have been contacted.

We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this has caused our customers, and please be assured the course of action we are taking is to ensure that VIR maintains the high standards that our loyal customers expect and demand.

This could be a great time frame to schedule a corporate teambuilding or group outing since the Patriot Course and VIR Resort activities and amenities (such as shooting ranges, skeet, kart track, spa, lodging and Oak Tree Tavern) will remain open with greater availability.

Thanks,

My understanding is that the repaving begins immediately following the NCM event. I expect to be there as well.

Anyone know how bad the track is where they are repaving?

Registration for everybody is done on the motorsportreg site in the original post - here's a clickable link:

http://www.motorsportreg.com/events/...ay-ncm-248628#

If you haven't instructed for the NCM events in a while, contact Matt Busby to give him your experience to get approval - there's a link to email him on the motorsportreg site, or the NCM site link below has his phone contact info:

Yeah - I didn't know what the problem was. The track was great last year for when we were at the NCM event the end of June 2015.

Of course the Oak Tree fell down Jul 2, 2013. Then in Dec 2013 they repaved the track and widened it, and finally paved the north paddock area.

But, take a look at this thread - in there you can see that apparently there was a race the summer of 2015 that had some heavy trucks running the track, and you can read in post# 13 and 14 about the speculation that they may have damaged the track:

http://dorkiphus.net/porsche/showthread.php?p=547739

I just did a quick search to see what the current problem is and what the Jul 2016 repaving will fix, but can't find any specifics. However, take a look at the info about the lawsuit VIR is bringing against the paving company.

http://www.yourgv.com/news/court/art...4762f8788.html

In there you can read that:
VIR and the Lodge at VIR maintain that after Thompson-Arthur repaved the Alton track on Dec. 17-21, 2013 “defects in the new asphalt were revealed almost immediately … including visible roller marks, damage and visible surface wear, called raveling, was seen after only months of use.”
.
.
.
Listed as defects in the repaved track surface are “raveling, slippage/potholing, rippling, tack bleeding to the surface, roller marks and settling and visual discrepancies between portions of the track surface.”
So....I guess we'll get to see what the complaints are about when we run the track at the NCM event June 27-28!!

I was at the track last November for TrackDaze and I would say the track is more non-uniform and wearing quickly rather than "bad". There are several places where they have patched holes and applied some type of tar epoxy, which does look really bad considering it has only been two driving seasons since they did the repave.

The exit of Turn 1, Nascar Bend (T3), Oak Tree (T11-T12), and Rollercoster (T14) visually seem to be the areas with the most patch work.

Yeah, I commented here after the Nov event about the sealer. It's very slick when wet and in the corners Truth mentions. There's also a small concrete looking patch and the end of the back straight.

Default Track Condition as of Feb 21st 2016

The shadows in Truth's video are pretty long and camouflage a lot of the repairs at Oak Tree. Maybe you can see that better in this video -- don't be distracted by the C7 Z51 -- look at the asphalt :-) This video was shot last weekend (Feb 20/21)

On a positive note, at least you can see the arc the pros use through Oak Tree since it is embossed in the track surface now.

The white patch at the top of Roller Coaster is an emergency epoxy patch
