Fluidampr 6% Underdrive LS1 Install - Tips & Belt Size?
Hey Gang,
I'm putting a 6% underdrive Fluidampr harmonic damper in my LS1 tomorrow (99' FRC track car). I've got a new bolt & seal, and the factory manual.
Any pro install tips? Suggestions for length of belt, or can I safely use the stock belt on the track in race conditions?

Some math on the belt length
Links to the 6% underdrive & std diameter:
6% underdrive: 7-1/4" OD
Std diameter: 7-1/2" OD
By my math, that makes for Pi * (7.5-7.25)" = 1.571" difference. Enough to warrant a shorter belt in order to maintain correct tension.

A little bit more digging...
Original GM micro-v belt: 19244950 = K06-13/16" x 80-3/8"
So, 6% underdrive should = K06-13/16" x 78-13/16"
Next trick is to see if I can find a good quality micro-v belt in that length.
Got completely sidetracked by a coolant leak on the tow vehicle today, zero progress on the race car. Other than it's been towed into the shop and is patiently waiting...

Keep in mind that you're probably going to have to replace the Fluidamper on a regular basis. It seems that the silicone changes over time. Fluidamper says this is not an issue. NASCAR teams treat them as a replaceable item though. They change them out on a time schedule.
There's very little factual data on this issue though.

Thanks for the feedback.
That article is a good read - kind of why chose the Fluidampr. I'm only club racing on a local track - in a complete season (which I've never managed to make it out for) I'd log 12 hrs a year in my run group. And it's a stock LS1 so it's not the most punishing environment. I figured if/when I get to making more power, at least that part is covered.
I did some more digging and found this from a Gates page:
K060785 = 79" (next size down is 78-5/8", which is smaller than ideal)
