How many C5's smoke like this on track?
#41
My original ls6 made small puffs on decel the whole time I owned it from 30-40k miles even after replacing valve seals. This motor never needed to be topped off at the track. I might have added like 1/2 a quart after 2 track days in a 3 day weekend, so not enough to be a concern.
My first replacement motor just blew huge clouds due to improper machining. I am hoping my second replacement allows me minimal smoke, so I can get back on track.
I have seen many c5's on track that make decel smoke though, so it definately isn't terribly uncommon.
If they aren't black flagging you and it isn't consuming enough to knock or be a low oil concern, at this point I personally would just be happy to run it.

I have looked at this issue quite a bit. A remedy that has served me well is a passive crankcase ventilation vs. a positive crankcase ventilation. Unfortunately, no one seems to have a good theory as to why some motors smoke and some don't. Personally, I think the issue is a cylinder and ring issue. Too many times motors are rebuilt because of this and no smoking gun is found.
