Default Battery Charger question

This is the latest from Optima

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B009M3PQFA...28f1a5574777_S

Looks nice and all, is it true what they claim about "conditioning" the newer type maint free/gel/agm/etc. batteries? I have a 20 yr old Sears that still works, but most of my batteries are NOT the old lead/acid top off with distilled water type.

Is there a good/better/cheaper alternative to the Optimas that does the same?

This is not a thread about dry cell, please.

I have the Optima 1200 charger. The charger is a very smart charger. The Optima battery does not like to tricked or hit with a lot of charge slow a certain voltage level. The Optima charger will analyze the present battery condition and regulate the amount of charge that will be best for the battery. I am very happy with my charger

Froggy,

I don't have any experience with the Optima charger, but after reading its manual it has the required different charge mode the AGM batteries need to be recovered when deeply discharged. AGM batteries need very specific charge profile to be recovered (Bulk, constant and float). I would stay with the Optima if using there Battery....Mac

I have heard that the CTEK charger will work fine with Optima batteries and AGM-style batteries. Also check out the Deltran chargers; they have versions of the Battery Tender that work with Optima batteries and AGM batteries.

These chargers are small and have fairly long cords. The Battery Tender chargers come with alligator clips and ring terminal ends. Just plug in the type of connector you need and plug it into a wall socket.

Amazon Amazon

CTEK 7002 all the way for AGM batteries. Works great on regular batteries too, but don't buy too much into the pulse charging to recondition them. It works much better on AGM for "reconditioning" than on a wet cell battery. I do batteries for a living for the past 6.5 years with 2 locations.
