Default Custom helmet fit - diy adjust

I have a cheap 2015 zamp with a couple of tight spots, usually not an issue for 60 sec at a time but I instructed yesterday novice autox and wore it longer periods.

Anyone have any methods of expanding the inner pads (pressure points) on a new helmet?

Don't post "buy a different brand" or "you will weaken the helmet". Not interested. This is a cheap autox helmet, not a track helmet.

2015 open face.

Would some heat and steam soften the foam so that you could massage it to gain the clearance you want?

Foam will break down on its own over time. I had a Bell M4 helmet that I used for a few years and the cheek pad foam finally broke down to where the fabric was loose to the point of drooping. I could squeeze what was left of the foam all the way down to the fiberglass shell. I kept that helmet in a cloth bag and inside my house when it wasn't in use.

I may just bear with it until it conforms on it's own as you say. I wear it quite a lot.

I was thinking of something like those wooden forms you put in shoes and turn a screw to expand them.

Thanks.

i would highly recommend not trying that. you really need a different helmet for your head shape. that stretcher will only succeed in damaging your helmet; get in a wreck and you just caused unnecessary head trauma.
so you may pass a lousy tech inspection, but you also have accepted a huge risk to severe neck injury by adding a weight to your head that serves no additional purpose.

you can only fix hot spots by adjusting the padding on a helmet made to do so OR finding the right shape helmet.

I would not do it to my track helmet, but this is autox. Parking lot speeds. Been doing it 15 years & yes I have seen a few wrecks & never one where the helmet mattered "much", belts YES.
