Default Ever get eye issues using balaclava?

Sometimes I get some funk in my eye using a balaclava.

Afterwards I get green discharge coming out of my eyes and my right eye was a little tender for 2 days.

Anybody have this issue?

How do you stop it from happening?

If it is rubbing near the eye that can be an issue. You can cut the openings a bit larger and have your seamstress finish the edges.

You may also have a reaction to the material - possibly some fumes inside cabin. My neck breaks out big time so my wife made me a silk liner. If there is any latex involved that can be violent.

Green discharge from eyes indicates infection - not good.

Thanks, I asked my Dr today.

Eye all better now.

Next race I'll have a few balaclavas so I always have a clean one handy.

It could be you are allergic to chemicals in the material the balaclava is made from. In the helmet your head will be sweating and the sweat will tend to run down your forehead and into the eyes. If it carries the chemical from the balaclava into your eye you could get a pretty good reaction. However, those types of reactions don't typically produce a green discharge.

Yes keep a few clean ones. Also it has helped me to wipe my eyes between sessions. Clean paper towel and water etc. I've had near blindness from sweat stinging eye so always try to remember.

What flavor head socks are you guys liking? I had the el cheapo G Force socks years ago and liked them then the wife threw them away thinking they were wallered out normal socks. I bought Sparco to replace the G Force and hate them (don't breathe, don't stay up, stick to my feet). I'd rather not buy a bunch of head socks before I find one I like, although I realize the subjective nature of my question.
