Almost no-one could pass using DRS; it was worse than previous years! A disaster if this holds true at other courses. A good start for MB and perhaps Bottas’ hope of holding on to his current seat at the end of the year, although I think it belongs to Ocon regardless of where he finishes . Also a good start for Red Bull/Honda; Verstappen had some decent pace.

My opinion is that cars are able to b closer to eachother.
So thats good.
But, now that the midfield is closer, passing is more difficult.
I was impressd by Norris and Alcon.
They were in a couple of close scuffles and didnt crash into the car they were racing. I thought that was real cool!
much rather have a guy like that than someone wh is afraid to tussle!

Because MB & Ferrari has decided to form an alliance to stuff everything FIA and Liberty wants to do for the sport we're stuck with this B.S. until 2021.
And even THEN, I wouldn't hold my breath.
What needs to be done is relatively drastic but necessary: force MB back into its traditional role as PU supplier.
Alone, Ferrari can't oppose FIA/Liberty.

I agree Stroll did look good.
I have always thought he had some skill.
The Williams last year was a joke of a car...and STILL is.
All 3 of this year's rookies did well IMO.
Good to see there is talent in the pipeline.

Just finished watching the race; here are my thoughts:
1. Excellent race for Bottas. Got one of his lightning-quick starts to get in front of Hamilton, who really didn't have a bad start.
2. What has happened to Ferrari? 0.7s down in qualifying, and that's about what we saw during the race
3. Great race for Honda! RBR/Verstappen also excellent in the race.
4. Mid-pack racing looks to be really tight, as pre-season testing hinted
5. Great race for Haas, even with one retirement
6. Good pit work on Grosjean's car. They learned their lesson from last year; no 2.5 second pit stop "rhythm", work until the servicing is done, THEN send the car.
6b. Bad work on the left front corner of Grosjean's car. How many cross-threaded wheel nuts have other teams experienced?
Have a good one,
Mike

Definitely a lot of tactics being used. I don't agree with Ferrari holding Leclerc back. Seems too early for that. I didn't realize Lewis had Max covered. Congrats to Bottas. I wonder has Lewis gotten the competition he wanted or did he just figure he owed him the win.
I was getting a bit annoyed on the selection of races they covered on camera.

A lot of time was spent on the mid-pack.

Glad to see it back.
Disappointed at the apparent M-B superiority. Again.
Thought the mid-pack stuff was pretty good, can't wait for a track with better passing opportunities.
Kvyat did a pretty good job holding people off without crashing anybody.
That *sshole Croft needs to go.

Every year we hear the same ol' Song & Dance from Toto Wolff how someone (usually Ferrari) will challenge MB, and every year all the pundits buy his B.S.
I am always amazed how gullible people are these days...no one seems to know ***** or remember anything about history.
Definitely a solid drive.
I am so sick of that...guy.
Fair enough.

The point awarded to the best lap seems to me to be the major information of this 1st GP. The new regulations will undoubtedly bring a particular animation at the end of the race, a change in the behaviour of the pilots and teams.
Bottas showed the way, despite the reticence of a the Wolf who was making amends after the race for his pilot's disobedience. By pride, Bobo went looking for this point, 1st message to his detractors before the famous and not very elegant f*ck you heard on the radio for a Finn.
At Ferrari, we are looking at a rejection that will have to be reviewed, because the Merco team also had a point. The others, whether they express it or not, will come to it.
Tactically, this will require finishing the race with the most efficient tyres and, if possible, in the middle of a period of efficiency. It is therefore the whole strategy that must be reviewed since keeping a set of tires almost new and considering a stop at the end of the race while allowing yourself a clear lap will become a race in the race.

Good point; I had forgotten about the point for fastest lap.
It was interesting, and good for Bottas evaluating and taking the chance (he is driving the car, after all).
BTW, I thought Hamilton's comments after the race were *very* guarded. Be interesting to find out just what went wrong with his race (other than the start, which was another amazing Bottas launch!).
Have a good one,
Mike

You're up already, Mike !
My opinion, and this is only my opinion, Ham V had a set up problem, maybe a clutch stall problem. Its launch is not so bad but the car seems to stop after and then start again, like skating. Then, the piece of floor torn off did not facilitate its movement or the recovery strategy to counter V4. With the same car on Melbourne, with the Bobo's level yesterday, it was impossible to overtake his teammate, so he drove cool. Despite this, he finished 2nd with Maxoo on his back, without any difficulty, which says a lot about Merco's strength yesterday.
As you said...''Have a good one''.

See the missing part in yellow on arrival
this missing element unbalanced the W10 #44, since the air flow was different on each side, as well as the pneumatic management. This incident would have happened on the 4th lap according to Ham V because of a Kubi aileron débris.

Thanks for reminding me about the damage to floor of Hamilton's car; you mentioned that above and I'd slept since then!
Also, that reminded me of Riccardo's day. #1: I can't believe FIA allowed that kind of ditch right up to the racing surface.
#2: I'm amazed that it didn't rip the entire right front corner off his car.
Have a good one,
Mike
