Default c5 z06 big brake kit questions - front calipers on rear

I've seen some thread by searching where the front brake setup can flip and be mounted on the rear... front driver side to rear passenger, and visa versa.
Most people have said this will throw off the brake bias terribly.
HOWEVER, most of them are people looking to run front calipers on all 4 corners.

I'm adding a wilwood 6 piston race setup onto the front... this car will be purely for track days. I wont be driving it on the street except for the 30 miles of highway to the track, and then back home.

So adding a monster front braking system, will I maintain the proper balance if I then put the front brake setup on the rear?

Since I will have the front setup just laying around... if I could re-purpose them onto the rear and still have the proper braking balance/bias, that's a "free" upgrade for me.

Looking at the wilwood rear big brake race setup... how much different would this be versus the OEM c5z front setup on the rear?

it's a 2001 z06.
Motor mostly stock, LG brake cooling ducts, dewitts radiator/oil cooler. Will be doing coilovers and swaybars this winter as well.

No, not if the BBK was set up correctly and mimics the brake torque of the factory system. The front caliper has more and larger pistons, changing the brake torque and the biasing. Other more knowledgeable folks here can expand on it, but that's generally what happens.

You're confusing piston quantity with piston area. The Wilwood fronts are nearly identical to stock in area (or clamp force) thus moving the fronts to the rear will net two negative things; excess rear brake bias (too much area vs stock) and excess pedal travel due to the total volume displaced when the pedal is pushed.

A few have claimed to do this mod of course. The basis however: just because you can doesn't mean you should.

Thanks all. So basically leave the stock rear calipers in place.

After some more digging... looks like I can buy the c6z51 rear caliper brackets and then run c6z51 size rotors in the rear as a "budget big brake kit"

I could have done it on the front, but I got such a good deal on the Wilwood setup it isn't even worth it.

That's exactly the setup I'm running with the Wilwood 14" Race kit in front. I found a deal on some two-piece Z51 sized rear rotors so it was cheap and easy.

You're running a c6 there... I assume the c5z brakes are the same as the base c6 brakes? and you just went up in size to the c6z51 rotor size by using the c6z51 caliper brackets?

looks like Part # 88964167 for the brackets?

What pads did you end up going with in the rear to get a proper balance with the wilwood 14" race up front?

Those are actually C5Z rear calipers on the C6Z51 brackets. I run Raybestos ST43 pads in the rear and Wilwood H (which are supposedly the ST43) in front.

I'm not sure on the bracket part number. My car is a Z51 so they were already on the car.

I have 1999 FRC and I run the SL6 WW kit from TCE. I forget the caliper name but it is not the skinny one and not the wide one. I run 20 mm brake pads HH wilwoods with stock rear setup also on HHs. I used to run EBC yellows on the rear but after suspension upgrades and a wing I find the rear doesn't lock with the HH rears. I run without ABS. I suggest you not waste your time. I simply see no benefits with the possibility of screwing up bias. My fronts last a year and the rears about the same.

The C5 can also be fit with the stock C6 Z06 13.4" one piece rotor and then use the four pot Wilwood FNSL4 rear caliper kit very effectively when paired with the Aero6 front on the 14" one piece rotor. Kinda the "poor mans big brake kit" of sorts saving hundreds off conventional full size kits with 2pc hats and rotors. *Although that 2pc above is quite nice.
