Default Another Re-build Thread

After finally blowing the engine on my 06 I am completely rebuilding it with plans to have a solid and serious competitive car.

Joel at Corvette Sports Inc. in Wisconsin is doing all the work, thank god. He is known for setting up these cars to win so I'm taking his advice, even when exceeding the budget I had in mind...but we know how budgets go when build these things! He is addressing any potential issue while apart.

A little history. DRM installed cage, etc. etc. A couple of years ago I thought the car was totaled after hitting the wall at turn 1 at Road America. Cage did it's job and kept me safe and car repairable. Got frame straightened and while under the knife I converted it to a wide-body. But the car was never the same, come to find that the shop doing the repair work did a poor job. Front crash bar should have been replaced, strengthened and other stuff. With the abuse on the track it didn't take very long for welds and other damage to occur. That's all done now.

Will be running in NASA and Club Racing in Chicago land area. Rather than rebuild blown engine I purchased a new LS3 from GM, that will be detuned. New clutch as well.

Other big changes:

brakes: always hated the way the rear brakes engaged. replacing base model rear Brembo calipers and rotors with a custom stop-tech kit. Will try that with the front Brembo already on but rebuilt and Hawk Pads. Joel will redo all the current cooling.

New Rear wing from AJ Hartman

New data and video system from Racelogic

AMT motor mounts (old were shot)

And of course while a part heat protect EVERYTHING!

Sub’d. Always like a good rebuild thread. Looks like your front end damage wasn’t quite as bad as mine. How hard was the hit? Good luck with the rebuild and thanks for the business. Please let me know if we can do anything else for you.

Wow, having the whole front end/cradle out sure looks like the way to go with this stuff! I'm fixinta pull my engine (05) and will do some reading on the forum to scope that out.

Good luck on the build

yes AJ Hartman now RHR. Had to cut into the back of the bumper as the very sturdy mounts are too wide. Not sure if they plan on changing.

I was curious I have same wing and uprights sitting in garage...but I’ve never actually seen one of his wings on a c6. Thanks for posting. Did you spec that spacing on wing? I thought uprights installed in middle of inner taillights not between inner and outer?

These mounts were designed on a C5 where there is more space between the bumper and the tub - it's a little more challenging cutting down the backside of the bumper but this is a track car not a show car. No design and engineering points in NASA lol!!

I'm not sure if RHR's Fulcrum top mounts are the same or not - the wing and mounts are very nice pieces - I especially like how the mounts sit on top of the impact bar instead of just bolting to it like others I have installed in the past. All force is applied to the chassis - Olaaf recently ran some CFD for this wing and it makes a huge amount of downforce.

We are going to be running the wing at 0 - 1 degree AOA without the gurney at first because we just don't have enough going on on the front of the car right now. It's nice to know no matter what we do to the front we will have plenty of adjustment in the rear.

You guys did a great job cutting rear bumper cover. I did to hack mine up today and not quite as clean. Going to have to run some aluminum or something around edges. I have identical setup-uprights, internal gurney, large end plates, reg mount.
