Bosco's 1969 Tube Frame Corvette Racer finally near completion
After many starts and stops, with life getting in the way...
The 1969 "vintage" racer I started more than four years ago is nearing completion. Pretty much just paint and set up left to do.
I conceived the idea years ago to build a tube frame outlaw vintage racer similar to what would have run in IMSA Camel GT circa 1975. Sort of a Corvette version of a DEKON Monza.
I had Woody Wood in DeLand, Fl build the chassis using the Howe Trans Am 2 front clip and his design of the rest.
After toying with the idea of using a carb LS1 for power, I flipped and used the more vintage correct small block dry sump 327 I had laying around. It has early Brodix heads, roller cam, Callies crank, Carillo rods and JE pistons. 11 to 1 compression. It has the Brodix single plane intake with a Bo Laws 750 carb. It makes 525 HP and about 420 torque.
The car gas the L88 racing flares, (slightly modded in front. The car will resemble the Owens Corning racers of the late 60's.
The tranny is a T101 Nascar four speed that I have had for years. It came out of the DEI Nascar shop. Very nice old piece.
The rear end is a stick axle 9 inch Ford with a Nascar chunk.
The shocks are rebound adjustable Penske's. The suspension is a three link coilover set up wuith Watts link.
The wheels are 15x10 Alloy that were used on Trans Am 2 cars recently. They have a vintage look and were cheap.
For now the rubber will be Hoosier late model stock car 26.5x10x15
The fuel cell is a 22 gallon ATL
The car should way about 2500# dry
We will race it in SCCA. HSR & SVRA. Lee Arnold of V8 StockCar Series will do the initial testing and later team with Kerry Hitt for some vintage races. Kerry won the Classic 12 Hours of Sebring in 2016 driving Dave Bacher's vintage Corvette. At 70 plus years of age, Kerry is still very fast in the Trans Am Series.
We hope test at Sebring or Palm Beach in April.

She's a light one !
I was hoping for sub 2500 # dry minus driver
She came in at 2363 with 10 gallons of fuel.
Not too much for the lil 327 to haul around.
