its kind of like do i need a stage 6 transmission? if my stock or stage 1 has held up and done me right for years? the rich and competitive guys will always say yes. OP do your research. take online suggestions, your research, and your common sense, combine them and decide whats best for YOU.
and to be clear Forgestars are also made in the US and from T6 Alum. just a different and cheaper manufacturing process.

i always root for ya on Optima Rich!
That's a good point and the cheaper wheels are probably good for a lot of the people out there. I look at wheels no different than quality seat/harness', helmets or fire suits. It's safety related for me so we don't try and save coin when it comes to that stuff. If I'm sending my wife out on a road course, especially with other cars and walls, I'm making sure she's on quality stuff.

Thanks man. This year at optima has not gone my way, but we're also not out trying nearly as hard. We wanted to focus on having fun this season and we're done spending money on stuff that doesn't make the car any faster (like Design and Engineering crap).

I'm really shocked they aren't cast as one piece. Welding cast aluminum? It also takes all the "forged" out of it when you heat it up that hot.

I feel like the 1000 people running c5z speedlines are all in serious trouble if this forum is right. Rotary forged wheels are one piece cast wheels that have the barrels "rotary forged" to create a strength to weight ratio simmilar to forging. Same as the stock c7 widebody wheels and the stock c5z wheels. http://getyourwheels.blogspot.com/20...ow-formed.html

The need for forged wheels only shows up in the realm of 50k+ track toys, like on this forum. Or in real racing where spending 25k on a few sets of wheels isn't considered when it saves a few pounds and minimizes breakage very slightly. Specifically as contact regularly occurs.

I am ordering my forgestars once i pick out a color and work out what front offset I want. For the 1000-1500 miles a year they will be on the car i am highly confident they will last me the life of the car.

There are plenty of people in this forum that run 5 times more days a year then i do, at that point 1 set of forged wheels probably makes sense.

Am I the only one who thinks their local roads are way harder on wheels than their race track?

Another nope. I just bent my CCW TS12 on a pothole. I need to confirm I did not damage the tire, but seems like I managed to bend a forged wheel. I will know for sure once I get the tire off.

No special sources. Just internet, which may be wrong.

If you go to Forgestar's website and look at their explanation of how the wheel is made, you can certainly see how they may buy blanks from overseas to save money, and then heat stretch (flow forge) these imported blanks to make the actual wheels.

Where I live, you may well be right. I've never seen so many big potholes. Road repair is not a sexy way to spend money so governments have ignored it. Plus, the huge growth in truck traffic has really broken down our roadways.

Okay, cool. I am not real worried about my OEM wheels at the track. I was very concerned about them on the street.

Glad to hear the track cooling ducts clear, eye balling it up I figured it would be fine.
What tires did you go with for your 18" wheel setup?

315/30/18 and 335/30/18 NT01's. Pretty decent setup if you need to drive back and forth to the track.
