Default C5 Z06 Extreme lightening of car suggestions needed

Adding Lightness!

Hi Guys, I am wanting to add HP and remove more weight for next year. Looking for tips on where to find the hard to get to weight items and how to do it. Any suggestions would be great. I am 3275 w driver when coming off the track out of fuel. Driver is 220 lbs (working on reducing that lump too!) Want to find another 100 lbs if possible. Interested in the windshield area in particular. Any other hidden places too.
Will be basically a ST-1 spec when done.

Does the car still have the heater box? How much of the dash panel is still there? Full wiring harnesses? Glass is pretty heavy compared to Lexan.

I guess I should clarify that the car is pretty much gutted, there is a dash, but nothing else, doors gutted, glass rear, poly carbonate front windows, etc. Most of the wiring is minimized, a little left to remove, headlights gone, The main question is regarding the next big steps and what they are. Very interested in seeing pics of the windshield area gutting.

I hope this narrows the focus.

All carbon body panels? Isn't there a chunk there. I know the fg stuff isn't heavy, but it seems like i've read several times that there is 100lbs to be lost. Especially if you can lose the rear glass. I'm sure you've already considered all that though.

b-pillar removed, a-pillars removed, all glass removed, and a Carbon roof (from cowl to b-pillar cover). I'd like a Carbon Fascia and hood eventually, but I'm happy with the current weight

Thanks David! I now see the new roof is required. Couldn't figure out how else it could happen. No other corvettes near me to see this in person.
It looks like our new rules be same as NASA ST2, so this will be good to do.

RD, This is race weight with 220lb driver installed coming off the track. Bare car and race minimum are 2 different things. For a class with weight mins, this is what matters. (I am really trying to reduce driver weight!) No cut off wheel for that though.

Thanks Gspeed. Great thread on your build. Lots of good ideas! I still wouldn't drive with out a cage though. I see the yellow C5 is caged, how is the weight on this one?

you don't have to do the Carbon roof to remove the B-pillar, I ran it with the OEM roof for over a year. I did the Carbon because (1) I got a good deal (2) even more weight came out (3) was going to lexan anyway.

TT is fine without a cage, in 30 years of racing/instructing/driving I've only seen 2 cars rollover, and the OEM B-pillar has nearly the same MOI of 1.75 tubing. Statistically if you aren't wheel-to-wheel, harnesses, head restraints and a fire system are better investments than a cage. FLAME away, just my opinion and experience.

lightweight clutch, balancer etc can get 60lbs out of cars also, that's about what mine saved. Gutted the door hinges, headlights etc.......Like the g-speed thread, I never add weight unless I'm removing more than enough to offset it. The roof mods more than offset the weight of the cage
