Default Waterfall hood vent

Over the winter I laid my radiator forward with a custom C & R radiator so I wanted to get as much of the hot air up and out as I could. So I designed this waterfall Hood vent.
I had to cover up the hole in my hood from my last vent so it pushed this one back about 1" too far and it didn't clear my power steering reservoir cap. Because it was the night before a TT I didn't have time to adjust anything(drives me nuts) but that will be fixed when I mold the entire hood and it ends up in the correct place

1st part fresh out of mold

Bondo for days

Sanding primer of the plug

Installed

My older small vent

Very cool!

Did you build a "chimney" that forces the air from the back of the radiator through this opening? If not, do you intend to? I've seen folks do this before and have always wondered how big of a difference it makes, if any.

Next project -> Turn your intake manifold around so you can remove the intake tube through the vent

I'll do a chimney eventually but currently only see 210° water and 250° oil on a hot day after 30min at a 1:59 pace @Watkins Glenn.
when I do it it will be for aero purposes only.

Identical temps for me in very similar circumstances. I had to put the factory thermostat back in to make sure I was running the engine hot enough.

As with you, I'd be doing for aero purposes only. I'm curious to know how big of a difference it makes to aero, if any.

I'm guessing I wouldnt notice a difference from what I have now. Would it help? Probably but not enough for my butt dyno to feel.
what's your front splitter situation?
i ask because splitters are what pull air down undah the cah if you dont have any hood venting.

Whats ironic is I was just on your website last night looking at this. I bounced around to RHR but do not want to flip the intake manifold around. Will there be a C5 version?

I need a C5 hood to make one. Maybe if I find a smokin deal on a hood this winter I'll make one

The best part about this is my family is from Boston and I didn't even notice the first time I read it....

Full 3" ACP style splitter. I spent a lot of effort ducting and sealing the air in through the radiator but no effort ducting it out through the hood vents. Does the air stall in the engine compartment without better ducting? Does it matter? No idea. I've always been curious if providing better ducting on the way out would help... I'm guessing not enough to "feel" but there are a lot of improvements you can't feel but contribute to better lap times...

Would you mind posting a pic of your radiator setup? I’m seriously considering doing the same as what you mentioned on the C6 I’m building

thanks they work mint too. I did a crude test with my compressor and some paper in the wheel well and they extract pretty good.
I had them cut to my design. Nobody makes them so I did.

My friend John at Trackspec Motorsports makes numerous hood vents for several different generation Corvettes and other cars. My race car was his prototype back in 2014 for C5 GT2 cars.

I think my fender vents inspired their fender vents.
nobody made them till after I did. Kinda neat when such a big company likes your design so much 😁

Probably had nothing to do with Pratt and Miller doing it first
