5th Gear
Anyone here ever use 5th gear? If so where? I’m also curious if anyone with a C6 Z06 has ever gotten to 5th gear with 4th being good to 162 mph. The only track i can think of with enough full throttle to exceed that would be Daytona.

Front straight at Miller (UMC) 1mile, but I have to shift out of 4th at about 145 I think.

Front straight at Roebling Road Raceway.
Just because you might be able to do 162 with your foot on the floor in 4th doesn't mean that you have to. There is no reason why you can't shift at less than maximum rpms.

Safety Car
agreed unless i was on a hell of a lap i would short shift at 6k or 6500. no reason for 7k, especially with the big cube 427. your just risking valvetrain and burnin gas for just turnin laps at a track day.

Yes i am aware. I'm generally talking about in an environment where the car is being pushed hard, not just simply puttering around.

You have to remember that most of the time folks are talking about running on a track here they aren't talking about a single flying lap. Sometimes it's better to grab a gear than it is to run it out and wait for valve float and bounce off the rev limiter. Consistency and finishing matter more in a race than a single fast lap.

VIR Full Course. If I get a good run I might got into 5th to keep the engine for sitting at redline. My car is a tuned headers C6 GS making 420RWHP and using 200tw tires.

C7 Z06 needs 5th gear at VIR on both the front and back straights.
