Default Square set up

Looking to run the square set up on my 2004 Z06. I know this is a common set up but i was wondering if you have to get any spacers for the front when using the factory 18 x 10.5 wheels.

I have stock length wheel studs.

I am running AP Racing sprint front brake kit (stock size rotor, bigger caliper)

dont need spacers or studs - unsure on caliper clearance but that is an easy test. Depending on the tire and brake duct setup you might have some rubbing but it wont matter on track, plus that is what gorilla tape is for.

1. I would not run any spacers w/o ARP studs.

2. Avoid spacers if you can as the front 10.5 +56s will stick out a smidge unless you have around 3.0 degrees camber. Most let them stick out a little as the C5s fender is a forgiving shape.

You'll be fine...I run OE C5Z 18" s square with a 14.25" BBk on front of my C5Z. No spacers needed. Depending on tire sizes, you may encounter rubbing on aftermarket brake ducts and possibly fenders/inner fenders.

You can run a 3mm spacer with OEM studs, I have them laser cut, but you shouldn't need them. The only brake kit the OEM wheels don't clear easily is the Performance Friction kit, and I don't know anyone that runs it.

I had the LG Wilwood 6-piston kit on my old C5. The outer half of the caliper body was narrower than the inner and it cleared fine. Not sure if LG worked direct with Wilwood to make that of if it was something they offered. Kit used the same pistons on both sides FWIW.

Good to know you can run a 3mm spacer and still get proper thread engagement on the lugs.

Ran my Z-16 with OEM 18's and standard studs without spacers - OEM brakes. Ran several different size tire up to 315 with no issues. At one point I did change wheel studs and installed non-GM ones w/o the tapered end, so the tud appeared to not extend to out side of the lug nut. It still got the same thread engagement. 18 square was a great set-up!

Thanks for all the info. I knew they would fit just didnt know if i had to modify anything. Cant wait for my fronts to wear out so i can start rotating the tires for track days. I hope to get a lot better wear out of them.

If definitely changes the balance of the car towards oversteer.

Agreed, if going to a true square setup then I'd definitely recommend talking with forum sponsor Sam Strano and picking up his adjustable front sway bar.

I'm running T1 bars and going square only required optimizing alignment in my case. I run the rear bar in the middle and the car is very well balanced.

I had to run a 3mm spacer to keep the wheels from hitting the a-arms at full lock. If you can avoid full lock you should be good to go.

I don't rub at full lock, it's mighty close, but doesn't touch. It's close enough though that my wheel speed sensor wire was on the outside of the control arm and the wheel started wearing it through. I fixed it and moved it inside the control arm, but yeah...I have clearance with my setup in the vid.

I am prepping a new to me bone stock C5 Z06 and want to go square. Have you experienced any issue with the active handling or antilock brakes? I know with the 17/18 stock set up the computer is used to seeing the front wheels spin a little faster. I too plan on a 295/35/18. Probably NT 05's...

Thanks,

Jeff
