those pieces are often knocked off street cars that come through the shop. They see to be designed to barely make it out of the showroom before falling off.

Your region/clubs/whoever puts up the course needs to figure out that all cones are not created equal. We have some that are too hard & on a cold day like a metal. They are relegated to grid or after finish runoff etc. the "better" softer cones don't usually do that kind of damage.

I hear the new C8 Corvette will not only have a heads up display, but also an "Autocross Mode" which would let you see the "autocross cones" and "autocross track" projected through your entire windshield....but you're really driving in a big empty parking lot. Not a chance of hitting any cones or touching chalked lines which could get dust inside your fender liners. Apparently every SCCA Nationals course for the last 20 years has been programmed into the PDR and heads up display system so you can compare your driving talents with other national champions on identical GPS verified courses.
Sort of like a virtual reality driving game but without those pesky VR goggles and you're driving a real car. Say goodbye to ******** cones and standing on hot asphalt in 100 degree temps...Woo Hoo!!
Good job Corvette Team!!

Safety Car
I dunno, we had a guy waste a cone at about 120 in an American Iron car. He had a metal flat bottom riveted to the stock front bumper skin and was wailing on it with a hammer after the session to get it back where it belonged. It was pretty damn funny because he was up my *** in a CMC car down 100hp closing fast and I swerved at the last second to miss it. He didn't stand a chance.
