I’ve run the Solo reusable numbers / class letters on other Corvettes I’ve had. The C8 is the first ceramic coated one and the reusable ones roll up on the leading edge and catch dust on the adhesive then they’re trash.
Any suggestions? It still gets driven on the street so permanent numbers / letters really aren’t an option.
I used static cling types. The car needs to be clean. Mist on distilled water, slap on numbers & squeegee off to remove water underneath. I did this the night before events & they stayed on even in rain.
Getting 10-12" vinyl numbers cut is cheap. You could buy like 10 sets for 60-80 bucks at any vinyl sign shop. Just remove them after an event.
Its only when you go away from standard form sizing that pricing gets outrageous because you are paying for much larger media and the need for a much larger format cutter.
Do they come off fairly cleanly? Or a little Goo Gone cleans it up?
If they are removed fairly quickly after an event, then they are not too bad. If they sit in the sun for a few days, then they can get sticky and leave a residue.
I've got my own plotter and cut decals for myself and my dad. I leave mine on all the time. Dad used to want to remove the numbers after an event when driving it on the street. He had started to leave his numbers on for the entire year and then remove for the winter storage. Nobody bothers you when you drive around with numbers on the car. If you drive sensibly, the cops don't bother you.
If I go to our NCCC conventions, I take the plotter with me and sell numbers there. Haven't had much complaint about people removing them after the week was over except on one who had is car wrapped. He got some contact paper numbers from me an they left a gooey mess on the wrap. Had several people with ceramic coated cars ask how they stuck. I gave them a small sample of the vinyl for them to test. Only one out of about 10 people say it wouldn't stick to their car.
Correct. The permanent vinyl will be a one-time use. It is possible (maybe more so with the ceramic coating) that you can peel them off and reuse them, but usually they stretch, distort or tear when trying to take them off. Figure out how many track days you are going to do this year and go to a sign shop and have them cut you that many sets.
I've been working on trying to find some reusable vinyl that could withstand quite a few cycles of use but haven't found anything that is affordable. Don't know numbers off the top of my head but say a roll of standard vinyl is about $50 a roll, it would be closer to $400 a roll for a good thicker reusable (fathead type material). I had found some stuff that was reusable at a reasonable price, but it was too thin and would stretch after a few uses, especially if trying to take off a car in the heat of the sun.
