transmission temperature
I road race my '89 convertible in what we call in Australia "sprint" events, which are multicar 3 lap events on circuits. I have an "XTreme" auto trannie (yes I know I should have a manual but it didn't start out that way) which has been 'manualised' so that I manually shift (a reliability mod). I recently put in a temp gauge for the trans oil temp, and at a recent practice session around a tight circuit using only 2nd and 3rd on a cool day of 33F external temp it got up to 300 F after 5 laps (and I am flogging it). I have a trans oil cooler in front of the radiator. I have a big aftermarket radiator and the trans fluid no longer passes thru it.
Is there any adverse effect running the trannie at this temp, and what temp do you guys reckon autos can safely run at for a short period of racing time (about 6-8 minutes).
cheers

Re: transmission temperature (dirtydave)
My c5 doesn't get above 215, but I just autocross. Max 1 minute at a time. I just had 3.42 put in and will see if that makes it hotter or not. I would consider getting another trans cooler if I were you. 300 sounds pretty high. ;)
