Re: Titanium Rotor thread (jackmott)
Please tell me all those people in that thread are joking. What is the purpose of a rotor? Is that something titanium does well? Name a single racecar that has ever had rotors made of titanium!
I really feel sorry for the idiots that waste thousands of dollars on such crap. Scratch that, no I don't.

I am sure some high end race cars do have them. Titanium is very light and strong.

Titanium or cermaic is lighter than steel, and can still be used in the street. Wether it is worth the money depends on your budget.

Re: Titanium Rotor thread (redvetracr)
Uhm, the first job of the rotor is to absorb heat. Do any of you know how the specific heat of Ti compares with cast iron? Once you figure that out, take into account the lower mass. How does the heat capacity compare? Do you realize Ti dust is rather flamable? Upon what technical knowledge are you basing the buttumption that a Ti rotor would work even as well as the stock rotor?
For those who are "sure" that "high end racecars" use them, please name one. A single one. If you can't, you aren't "sure."
Oh, bet let's get a GP put together! People who balk at paying $2-3K for a real brake upgrade because they're "so expensive" are ready to drop $4K at the drop of a hat with the right marketing...for a product that may, in fact be completely lousy.

Re: Titanium Rotor thread (Jon AA)
Hi Jon,
I think you missed the point. Have you considdered that John Shiels writing "only 4200 bucks for four" may not be entirely serious? And I didn't see anyone arguing that just replacing steel rotors with titanium on a stock brake system is better than a traditional big brake kit.
And there is hardly any experience with titanium rotors, yet. But, for the future, titanium may be an interesting option. Just like ceramic rotors.
Why don't you relax and take it easy? Instead of calling people you never met idiots.

OK, sorry if I mistakenly thought some of you in this thread were serious. I feel better now. ;)
However, some in the other thread are serious. And there's a "supporting vendor" ready to take their money....
