Re: Diff and ZF fluid recomendations?? (screeminmeanie)
I use Red Line 75W90 in the rear (be sure to use the 75W90 and *NOT* the 75W90NS) No additive is required.
I use Red Line Lightweight Shockproof in my ZF. Many will jump up and down and scream blasphemy for not using the BMW stuff or the factory fill. All I know is that I've used it in this tranny since it was new without issue. I change it once/year which is probably excessive, but it gives me peace of mind. I also know that the ZF Doc tore down a ZF that had used Lightweight Shockproof as a validation of the lube and found it to have the least wear of any ZF he's tore in to. Some people like Red Line MTL. I seem to recall that on the track, the ZFs in the '89 and '90 Corvette Challenge cars were filled with MTL.
I use Mobil 1 in trans and rear gears. Don't put in additive for the rear gears.

  Mike, if you are NOT using the Limited Slip Additive, then you must be getting a lot of "chatter" from the rear end when the car is being truned. This has been my experience: NO ADDITIVE = Lots of Chatter, while WITH ADDITIVE = Nice Quite No Chattering rear end.
I'm using Mobil 1 75W-90 Synthetic Gear Lubricant with the 4oz of the GM Limited Slip Axle Lubricact Additive (part No. 1052358). Never any gear noise or problems or "Chatter".
If your rear is "Chattering" (because the outer wheel is going further around a corner than the inner wheel) you will eventually destroy the rear axle clutches.
I use Mobil 1 without the additive as stated previously. My rear gears run smoothly without problems. I had this conversation many years ago. I talked to the Mobil tech department directly. Didn't get a straight answer. They stated that "there is an additive in the product and additive is not required unless the auto manufacture states it is required". Sounds like a riddle to me, and I told them it sounds like a riddle, but thats what I received without any re-explanation. Comments?
Mike
Yep..same riddle.
Many have the additive in the oil, but it's not as good as GM's little blue/black bottle.
I run w/o it untill I hear the chatter.............I get it from drag racing.
Gotta do some on the 00' as we speak........it's talkin to me :yesnod:
Re: Diff and ZF fluid recomendations?? (screeminmeanie)
I use the Redline 75W90 in the diff. Redline says this has the additive in it and no additional additive is required. I have run it for about 12k street miles and 14 SCCA races (lots of changes of course). No chattering.
I use Redline D4 ATF for tranny.
Not saying Redline is any better than Mobil 1 or anything else. Only what I chose to run. I'll admit, when I chose Redline, I didn't know Mobil 1 made tranny/diff oil.
