The differential in my car has recently become more noisy. The car sees 6-8 HPDEs per year and weekend driving mileage. The fluid was just changed, but it made no difference. The "clunking" is only noticeable going around sharp corners at low speeds. My old 12 bolt posi rearend in my Chevelle made similar noises -- adding a little GM posi-additive to the fluid would quiet it down. My local dealer has suggested the noise is not indicative of a problem with the differential and that I should not worry about it.
Is there any reason to think I should be worried about a more serious problem?
Your description sounds like a limited slip chatter problem. You indicated a change of fluid, but was the limited slip additive also added when the fluid was changed?
I would try adding a couple more oz. of limited sliip additive, and keep adding up to 4 oz. untill the noise goes away. The noise is most pronounced during low speed thght turns.
