Default C4 front sway bar size

I searched & didn't come up with much for c4's. I've got a 96 LT4 coupe running solo2 a/s - base suspension is a 24T bar. On Hib's suspension chart I see a few years had 30 Solid bars. Is this the "correct" or best setup on mine? Thanks!

it may not be legal for AS, and probably isn't

You can change the front bar and be legal in A-stock. If you want a bigger rear bar you can run the 26mm that came on the grandsport, but only if you do the 17x9.5 and 17x11 wheels and GS brake calipers.

Shaun,
SCCA rules allow updating to a specific option package available for your year model, BUT the update must be totally complete - so in order run the 26mm rear bar, you would have to either have a Grand Sport or an LT4 couple that is fully upgraded to the Grand Sport configuration (except for the paint scheme) including the items you mention but also the rear fender flares and in particular the sport seats which not all LT4 coupes came with and is the most difficult part of the package to get since the seats aren't available from GM any longer. Regardless, the conversion must be complete - not stock legal to only put on part of the package. You also must use the factory rubber bushings or equivalent, no poly bushings allowed on the rear. Front bar is "free" - any bushings etc. And the wheels must be the Grand Sport offsets, not just 9.5 and 11 widths, so you can't use ZR-1 wheels.

By sport seats you are refering to the all power ones w/ the air bladders? If so im good there. I have heard both ways on the fenderflares, some say you need them others say you don't. Being that im going to be local for the next year or so its not really on my priority list but will probably be added beause I liked the looks.

Yep - the sport seats have the six-way power adjustment of the optional power seats but also have the lumbar bladders with the corresponding driver/passenger selection switch and lumbar switches on the r/h side of the console instead of a duplicate of the l/h switch. And those who've told you the fender flares aren't required are wrong, at least according to Doug Gill at SCCA - rulebook is very specific, option package must be complete. For local racing it won't matter but if you run the Tour event in Houston (usually) you'd be protested (and DQ'd).

Since front roll bar is free has anyone gone with MORE than a 30mm solid? Is any more than a 30mm solid available?

I see VBP has a 32mm front for $150 but it does not specify if solid or hollow.

If you do a big front bar without the matching rear the car will PUSH.

Do you think the 30mm front oem would work with the 24mm rear? But not the 32mm (VBP) front with the 24mm rear?

Thanks!

Does the rulebook say that you cannot run a clear top on your car if you plan on racing it as a Grandsport due to the fact that the GS's didnt come w/ them?

Hi Shaun,

Looks like we are researching the same thing. I gotta believe that this has all been settled about 6 or 8 years ago but finding the SCCA rulings/guidelines is like finding a needle in a haystack.

I spoke with Doug Gill once on the phone but he really did not have the details on this particular issue (adding the GS pkg to a 96 lt4 Vette).

He just said call GM - .

Anyone have a source for the rules? What IS "the complete pkg" for a Grand Sport? and what is your "authorative source" for it.

Thanks!

Keep in mind if you are "building" a GS you have to run the 26mm rear bar. The only quick GS I have seen, Charlie Shelton, is using the 30mm front on his "GS clone".
