Anyone ever have p/s troubles after autocrossing? First 2 runs were fine, then it's like driving a delivery truck! I checked the fluid and it's very low, not even touching the dipstick! It took about 6 oz. of p/s fluid to reach the full mark. This still didn't help the low speed turning effort.
Could I have sucked in some air into the lines and now need bleeding?
The pump is not making any kinds of noise and there is no fluid leaking anywhere. Is this a dealer fix or could I do it myself. Thanks in advance for your comments.
After about 15,000 track miles my PS pump would occassionally stop working (the delivery truck feeling), so I had it replaced under warranty. My old pump was not making any noise and there were no leaks either, but it sure wasn't working all the time.
You have most likely damaged your pump due to oil sarvation, and it should be replaced. If it's still under warranty, it should be covered. If not, shop around for a new pump. It shouldn't be "bank braking time" to replace it, although it's in a tough spot to get to. Mine was replaced without removing the radiator.

As Jim said or the check valve is sticking. Mine was dying in tight corners. I got a new one for 192 rebuild from GM is 120. Got to check the fluids or it's Money time.
Yeah just did on my92. The high pressure hose is leaking. Have to replace it. This is not a fun chore to do at all... Getting the nut loose on the steering rack is a major battle. Finding a GM replacement wasn't fun either. I'm hoping I didn't screw up the PS or the rack. It was leeking a lot on full turn but I never let it run dry. We'll see the final verdict after I get the new hose on. It is labor intensive to replace so we're talking a $100 part and about $500-$600 in shop labor if I let the dealer do it...
