Thanks, I agree that it isn't a numbers car. For someone unfamiliar; the installed 1964 327 is from the correct era allowing correct engine breathing with the correct style of valve covers (no breathers). The fresh air comes from air cleaner through the steel tube to recepticle in the top rear of block (just behind the intake manifold). This then gives the factory intended circulation with crank case fumes exiting through pcv mounted on the side of oil filler tube with a hose to the carb. A 350 block wouldn't have the engine breather recepticle so one would need to use some other method of breathing, such as later style valve covers with breathers.

Hi Mark, Formula 5000 was a pro racing series in the States, Australia/NZ, and Europe from the late '60s to late '70s and was based on stock blocks of 5 liters (5000 cc) in state-of-the-art F1 style chassis. Most teams used the Chevy 302 from the original Z/28. These engines were highly modified with the best parts available, dry sump oiling, and either Weber carbs (earlier cars) or Lucas mechanical timed fuel injection on a magnesium MacKay manifold. Back in the day they were getting 510-540 hp and although that isn't a lot today consider that the car's empty wt was under 1400 lbs. My '76 Lola T332C project car has a Bartz Chev with the Lucas inj.

They went off in a huff mumbling I didn't have a clue about "real" racing.
I was looking hard at some F5000s back about 20 years ago when you could find some around $10,000 to $15,000. Should have bought one.
Good luck in the sale of your Corvette. Of course, once you do, that money will disappear in this hole in the water on land.
A true "it's sold" shot if ever. If they don't buy it like this, they are nuts.

Hi again Mark, Thanks for bringing that photo to the front of the forum. I fiddled around with it and gave up, then later saw something about doing a photobucket to transfer out of, haven't gotten around to it. Yeah, there are a goodly share of the remaining F5000 cars here in the States (seems that most have gone to Australia/NZ or England) that are not running correct 5 liters. One guy told me his view pertaining to allowing alum cyl heads now (which were mostly not available, if used at all back in the day). Because he was still running iron cyl heads he had enough disadvantage against an otherwise identical car with alum heads that he felt justified with his larger cube. (And rear wt bias is huge on those cars, someone described driving them as compared to throwing a 4 lb sledge hammer,,,,,,,HANDLE FIRST !!) BTW, You may not be John's relative but when going to the drags (if I were you) I would be wearing a T shirt that said "Milner Racing Team, Ray's Automotive, Petaluma" (you know the one!). Later, Marc

Hi Vegas, Sorry but there must have been a communication breakdown as I normally get notified (in regular email) whenever someone posts. (I was working overseas during autumn if that is when you wanted to see it.) The car is located in Simi Valley California which is 50 mi northwest of LAX airport. Thanks for your interest and sorry we couldn't hook up. -Marc
