WTB- 1953 or 1955 Corvette
Hi. I recently bought a nice 1957 Corvette, black/silver, with a red interior, and I am now looking for another solid axle car, either a 1953 or 1955. I had one of each back in the early '90s in California, and would like to find another for my collection.
Prefer a nice car, with solid frame, nice body, with a VIN tag that matches the Title. Not looking for a Top Flight car, unless you want to make me a very sweet deal. I see that Pro Team has 5 different 53s for sale now, but I prefer to deal with a Private Party instead of a dealer.
Please let me know what you might have for sale, or any leads on a nice car, that is fairly priced. You can reach me by email at -

Thanks for looking, and have a Wonderful Holiday and Happy New Year.

Hi Matt,
Thank you for your thinking about me. I am going to hold onto my search for either one of the low production 1953 or 1955 Corvettes for now. They are both rare and expensive, and I am hoping to find one that might need some work, so I don't have to pay #1 prices.
Have a Happy New Year,
Steve

Hi Ryan,
Thank you for the heads up on that 55. I had seen that car online during my searches before also. Unfortunately, it is too much of a project for me, to bring it back to original condition. I am definitely not going to buy a resto-mod 53 or 55.
I do not mind buying an original 53 or 55 that needs a restoration, but no resto-mods.
Thanks again, and Happy New Year,
Steve

Hi Mike,
Of course, I would be looking to spend as little as possible, for a nice car . Realistically, I would spend up to $150k for a very nice 1953 Corvette, or $100k for a very nice 1955 Corvette.
They do not have to be Top Flight cars, but should be very original for these prices. Pro Team has a 1953 car, that is probably 85% original, for $150k, which was marked down to $120k up until a few days ago during their winter sale. I know it has the wrong valve cover, as well as the wrong radiator overflow. Not sure if it has the correct block or head.
I am patient, and will wait until I can find a good deal. I am certainly not in a rush to pay $150-250k for a 1955, or $200-400k for a 1953.
There are a few nice 1955 Corvettes out there in the $150k range now, and some are asking up to $250k. I do like to drive my cars, and the V8 in the 1955 is a much better driving motor, versus the 1953 straight six cylinder. I have owned both a 53 and 55 at the same time back in the early '90s, and will drive which ever one I end up buying.
I get my 57 back home from the painter tomorrow, and look forward to driving that around this week. It is always a blast to drive around town in my 1972 LT1 and 1970 454 convertibles, but I have always had a fondness for the straight axle cars.
Thanks,
Steve

Steve good luck because I think you are going to need it to find a 53 or 55 Corvette for the kind of $$$$ you are wanting to spend. Hope you find one someday.

Steve - You will find what you are looking for. I am going to reach out to a few different corvette dealers I know and see if they can keep a look out for one. If I give them your price range, they will find you one for that. May take a little time but let me check. I have a standing order for a 58-60 that needs full restoration for a very low price. They get them in from time to time.
Good Luck!

Hi Matt,
Thank you for your reply, and search on my behalf as well. I am a patient man, and can wait to find either of these two cars. After owning over 65 different Corvettes, years 1953 to 1972, over a 30 year period, and not owning one from 2008 to 2013, I was very patient last year to find a few cars that I want to own.
There were a few people on this board that told me I would never find a nice 67 Vert with matching #s for my price of $45k, but then I found a nice, matching #s vert for $38k. Also found a low mileage, documented 1970 LS5 vert, and a 72 LT1 vert for great prices. Just found my 1957 2-top, 245hp, 4 speed, PW Vet for under $50k, with a new paint job, and original motor and trans.
The cars are out there, but sometimes we just have to turn over many stones to find them. I am very patient when it comes to finding a good deal, and not in any rush to overpay for either of these 2 years..
If a good deal presents itself on a 53 or 55 Corvette, I will be happy to buy it. If not, I was fortunate enough to already own both a 53 and 55 twenty-three years ago, at the same time.
Thanks again, and let's hope we find one or the other. I like both years, and have no preference.
