I am selling my restored 1966 Chevrolet Corvette 427ci/425hp L72 convertible on a 10-day eBay auction ending this Thursday, April 11, 2024 at 12:25 pm Pacific Time. You can see the car’s auction listing here: https://www.ebay.com/itm/186372029667

I am a private seller and not a dealer. I have owned the car for over 25 years. The car is in beautiful condition, starts and runs well, and has won multiple car show awards. It is located at my home in Prescott, Arizona 86305. The car is being sold with all of my service records and parts invoices. I DO NOT have any previous owners' documentation, original dealer purchase invoice, service records, or the Protect-O-Plate for the car.

If you are looking for a beautiful, restored C2 convertible with a real L72 engine and Muncie M21 4-speed transmission for cruising and car shows, please check out the eBay auction listing and consider being a bidder. I have set a very reasonable Reserve Price. If you are looking for a car for NCRS Top Flight judging, then this is probably not the car for you. An additional 300+ high-resolution photos of the car are available to bidders who contact me. Thanks.

Here are links for 2 videos of the car.

Thanks for the kind comments on my 1966 Corvette L72 427ci/425hp convertible being sold on an eBay auction ending this Thursday. There is a reserve price on the car, which I am not revealing. But I think it a reasonable given the condition of this restored C2 convertible with a real, correct L72 engine and Muncie M21 4-speed transmission. Here are a few more photos of this beautiful convertible. Check it out on eBay and call me if you have questions and are interested in bidding.

Restored car that still looks beautiful and continues to win car show awards

Paint and chrome are in excellent condition, really shine, and look spectacular in person

New set of Diamond Back redline tires have just been installed on the aluminum knock-off wheels

Restored interior has working clock, radio, and a teakwood steering wheel

During restoration of interior, the instruments were refreshed and calibrated by expert Mike Poirier of Valley Vettes

Clean undercarriage showing larger diameter big block front stabilizer bar and no engine oil leaks

Real L72 engine with correct 3247 Holley carb, GM 3885069 aluminum intake manifold, GM 3880827/388028 exhaust manifolds, and K66 transistor ignition

Correct L72 hi-performance 4-bolt main engine block GM part number 3869942

Looks like a lot of attention to detail was given to the car during the restoration process. Items like the spark plug wire routing as it leaves the shielding around the distributor, correct T3 headlights, spark plug shields in place, to name just a few items. These items in and of themselves may not be critical to the average buyer, but to me, it shows someone paid extra attention while doing the work. Nice car!!

Thanks for the kind comments about the efforts I put into making this car as correct as possible. Over the 20 years I owned the car in Southern California, I made many trips to the Pomona Swap Meet where I found and purchased correct parts for the car, such as a restored original 1100696 42-amp alternator, restored Delco-Remy 1107365 starter, correct AC logo 40366 fuel pump, original AC RC-15 radiator cap, and the list goes on...

I read through your Ebay description again and feel that it would likely behoove you to mention all of the original parts installed on the car. The AC 40366 fuel pumps are next to impossible to find - I think they were a one-year only item, maybe two ('66 and '67). I searched for a correct 40366 pump for several years before finding one. I found several pumps that claimed would fit on my '66 but the fittings didn't match up.

With minimal effort, your car could be prepared for judging and it would do very well. It's likely judges would report your paint is "over restored" but I'm guessing that's exactly how you wanted it and further suspect that's how the eventual purchaser will want it too.

Even if the next caretaker of your car doesn't have a desire to have it judged right away, they would have a super solid foundation to have it judged at a later date.

Once again - Nice Car!!!

I have decided to be cautious about making any claims about engine originality since I don’t have any original dealer purchase documentation on the car.

If you are interested in bidding, please contact me through the eBay listing. I can provide a link to over 300+ high-resolution photos that include close-ups of all the part numbers castings and date codes stampings to guide your assessment of the car.

One last reminder, this beautiful car’s eBay auction CLOSES TOMORROW. Here again is the link to the auction:

I thought I would share some more photos of my 1966 Chevrolet Corvette L72 427ci/425hp convertible that is for sale on an eBay auction closing Thursday, April 11. As mentioned, I am not making any claims about the originality of the engine to the car. Nor am I using the widely misused term "numbers matching" when describing the car. Any such claims of originality should be backed up with original dealer purchase documentation, which I do not have. I am sharing more photos to help Forum members better evaluate the quality of this restored L72 convertible and help in the decision to be a bidder. I am also quite proud of this car and felt like sharing more about it. Enjoy the photos and please consider bidding!

This beautiful car has had a comprehensive tune-up, complete fluids service, and a full detail in preparation for the sale

All four headlights are vintage, correct (no DOT marking or vertical bars in triangle) Guide Lamp T-3 units I found scrounging junk yards

Car has its original A01 Soft-Ray tinted windshield with correct date code of JA (May 1966)

Correct L72 aluminum intake manifold with GM part number 3885069

Correct L72 high-performance cylinder heads with GM part number 3873858 and both with identical manufacturing casting date B 25 6 (February 25, 1966)

Correct L72 AC-logo fuel pump with stamped part number 40366

Correct restored original AC-logo RC-15 radiator cap with brass rivet

Correct restored original Delco-Remy 42-amp alternator part number 1100696 with date stamp 5H16 (August 16, 1965)

Correct restored original Delco-Remy starter part number 1107365 with date stamp 6 D 12 (April 12, 1966)

Correct large 15/16" (.9375") diameter F41 (L72 only) front stabilizer bar

Correct large 9/16" (.5625") big block rear stabilizer bar

Instrument cluster rear label of LB that is correct for L72 equipped cars

Correct 1966 jack (with letter A stamping and no date code), lug wrench, and lead knock-off hammer

That's a whole lot of car for $99,000 based upon what I've seen available in the market. It appears to me that Ebay may not be an ideal site for selling such a nice car. The trouble with other auction sites like Bring-a-Trailer is the number of self-proclaimed experts who make comments aren't as knowledgeable as they think they are.

I am thinking about relisting my restored 1966 Corvette L72 big block convertible on eBay as a $99,900 Buy It Now or Best Offer. Other than the Corvette Forum, does anyone have any other suggestions where to list the car for sale that won't charge the buyer or seller a sales commission. I have decided to avoid Craigslist as too many scammers, low ballers, and tire kickers and I don't need help selling it by consigning it with a dealer.

That is a beautiful 66. When I was in high school a good friend's father took delivery of a new 66 vert with the same drive train, in silver. It was awesome! I know Bring a Trailer has already been mentioned in the thread. No auction site can match the interaction between buyer and attentive seller. Granted there are always a few boneheads posting comments. The really knowledgeable members usually shoot down the jack wagons. Big block C2's have done pretty well. The bidders are buyers. Over 100 listings per day and perhaps one relist because a buyer backed out. Compare that to eBays record of completed sales. When I was looking for my current C4 at least 10% of the listings were there because the buyer backed out. Sales fees on BaT are bore by the buyer with the seller paying a little as $99. Your car is perfect with perhaps the only problem being the engine re-stamp. Seller participation is a must. Auctions where the seller is AWOL seldom meet reserve. Good luck finding your C2 a new home.

I just relisted my 1966 Corvette 427ci/425hp L72 convertible on eBay with the Buy It Now price shown at the top of this For Sale post. I was very close to having the car sold with one of the underbidders from last week's 10-day eBay auction, which did not make reserve. But this morning, the buyer got cold feet when it came time to send the bank wire and backed out of the deal. Wasted several days of my time answering endless questions and shooting and sending additional photos. So my beautiful car is available and looking for a new owner/caretaker.

@slammin I agree with most of your comments about Bring A Trailer. I am a member and have sold two of my collector cars on BaT. It is an interesting auction platform, which can be quite entertaining and informative. But BaT is far from being a perfect place to sell. You have to negotiate hard to get a reasonable reserve price from BaT. You also still have to wait weeks to get your car listed. And finally, your statement that "Sales fees on BaT are bore by the buyer" is not actually correct in practice since the Bidder always takes into account the 5% Buyer's Fee he must pay when he determines his maximum high bid on a BaT auction car. So the Seller actually loses that 5% on his selling price and the money goes into the pocket of Hearst Communications, the international media conglomerate that purchased and owns BaT. This is one of the reasons I listed my Corvette on eBay and the Corvette Forum since the purchase price negotiated by the Buyer on these platforms goes entirely into the pocket of the Seller, which actually benefits both parties.

Temp close to review interference

Re-open after review.

Members:

This thread has attracted a few posters who seem to be unaware of site Interference in a Sales thread rules.

For your convenience:
8. Interference in a For Sale thread

http://forums.corvetteforum.com/show....php?t=1118176

If you don’t like the price or item being offered in for sale thread, take it to e-mail or PMs. Better still, just move on to a thread that is offering something you like the price on.

If you post a criticism of the price or the quality of the item being offered, you will be in violation of Forum rules and subject to sanctions.

If you post your own for sale items to the for sale thread started by someone else, you also are in violation of Forum rules. Start your own thread, rather than jumping into the thread of someone else.

If your contribution to a for sale thread does not advance the sale, you are in the way.
I removed multiple posts criticizing the price of this car. This is expressly against site rules. Other comments generated by those posts also entailed posts that were not advancing the sale.

Please refrain from posts that are unhelpful to this member’s car sale, thanks.
