Default Still Bogging

engine runs pretty good, all except the moment i get the clutch all the way and it bogs. its not a major bog, but its just enough that i cant really scoot (or burn) from a stop. the revs drop just enough to wear it is noticeable and quite annoying if i want to get on it. the accelerator pump squirts instantly. infact just a wiggle of the throttle arm makes the pump start shooting. its very sensitive. i timed as per the recommendations of the experts of the forum here. this weekend i tried twisting the distrib just a bit more to see if that would help and it didnt. infact i started pinging a little, so im gonna have to twist it back. any other ideas for what to look for to solve this bog problem?

its a low horse 327 with a holley 650 ontop. dont know much about the carb. i havent checked floats yet. probably should do that next?

I have a 64 with the 300HP LoPo engine with a powerglide. I was having the same problems and whet through the same steps to correct it as you have. I installed a Pertronix Ignitor II electronic module , to replace the points and cond., along with their matching coil and plug wires. Solved my problem with the hesitation and improved the drivability of the car greatly.

yeah did something similar. went with the msd box, distrib, coil and wires. it did improve the car very much, the bog is all that is left to complain about.

Bring it by and we'll take a look at the carb and check your timing. I watched Lars do a couple of these the other day (including mine).

I'm in Santa Ana so it's about an hour's drive (without traffic).

that is quite tempting, but thats over twice as far as the furthest ive driven the car. not sure i trust it that far. plus, id like to be able to do some of these little tunings on my own.

Is it a Bog or possibly it's Lugging? Do you know for sure which rear end and transmission you have? If you couple an M21 with a 3:36 it might feel like a Bog! Does it feel this way when passing or accellerating once you are going?

it could be lugging. i dont know what rear and trans i have. the one thing ive noticed about the trans is that when shifting into 4th the rpms drop significantly, much more noticeable drop then the 1-2 and 2-3 shift. once im at speed acceleration seems fine. the car isnt fast, but it seems quick enough at speed. its just that little hesitation or whatever it is the minute the clutch comes all the way out.

A bog happens when the power isn't enough to overcome the resistance to movement. Sometimes it's just a momentary power drop from not enough accellerator pump shot and the mixture suddenly goes lean. I think you've covered that base though. It sounds like you have the wide ratio tranny, which does have a larger jump from 3-4 than the other shifts but unless you're shifting to soon you should still have good accelleration in 4th. I suspect that you may have a bigger cam than you think or there's a problem that's limiting the amount of power your engine is making.
