I'm relatively new to the forum... that is to say posting as I regularly read many of your posts.
Here's the deal I've got a 65 327/365 with stock front springs. Front passenger is sagging... at least more than driver front. I have 225/60/16's on the car which give it a very close to stock rolling diameter.
Front Driver side is 26 3/16" from ground to rim of wheel well.
Front Passenger side is 25 5/8" and is rubbing the wheel well on occasion. So I have to get two new front springs. My question is this. What should my ride height be? I want something close to what I have now, but without the rubbing.
Is it best to stay with replacement stock, or go with the Grand Touring springs which are about half way between f41 and original?
Also can anyone tell me what height they have from ground to the lip of the wheelwell in the front.
Joe I found that the replacement springs that I recieved from ZIP may sit a little low vs original. I'm running 225/50/17's so my rolling stock is 26.3 however my fender lips are from the ground 25 1/8". Mine's low but that's what I wanted... Dave...
That's quite a side-to-side difference. Perhaps a previous owner used a torch on the springs and got an uneven result? I cut my stock springs to bring it down but my ground to fender lip is 24.25" (I'm running 225/60/15's on 15X7 rims). I suspect that your rubbing issue has more to do with your rims than with your springs (though you definitely need new springs).
You need to get a factory shop manual as it shows how to properly measure the chassis height and factory settings. Measuring to the fender lip isn't the best because of body tolerances and past repairs. The proper way is to meaure the height to the bottom a-arm ball joint from ground and from ground to the lower a-arm bushing bolt. Subtract the two and compare from side to side.
hey, thanks for the input. I'm a bit confused though that you don't have the same rubbing problem. I'm running the same basic deal as you with TTII's but mine are 16" and my tires are 225/60/16. My rolling diameter is very close to stock. I do live on top of mountain and that's usually where the rubbing takes place in uphill/downhill turns to the right. Is it possible that my springs are just so bad that they don't react in time? Also can you give me the item number from zip?
First off, thanks for the reply. From your photo it looks like you are running TTII's just like me. Mine are 16 x 7 with 225/60/16's. Both you and Dave have lower sitting cars in the front and neither of you have rubbing issues? Are my springs just so bad that they don't react to changes in direction and elevation? What kind of springs did you buy? Thanks for the time and effort.. Joe
Thanks for the advise, that does make sense, however I'm not running factory specs for wheels and tire. I will advise my mech. to look at that ball joint first.. Joe
