One of my headlights was way out of adjustment on my 66 roadster and when I went to adjust it I found out why. The outer bucket was wrong, didn't even fit the way it was suppose to. Looks like someone went to a swap meet acquired just any old bucket and tried to make it fit. Does anyone know where I might acquire a replacement? The right one this time.
I assume you are refering to the metal capsule that the sealed beam lamp goes into with the stainless ring? That whole deal is called a capsule assembly. A headlight bucket referes to the housing that turns around . Now that we have the terms right, the capsule should be available at most parts houses. You may be able to find a suitable replacement at a salvage yard if you look thouugh enough of them.

I could be wrong but I always thought there were only two different headlight buckets, the 1963 Fiberglass ones and the 1964-67 Pot Metal ones.
I don't understand how you could get the wrong one unless one is fiberglass and the other is metal.
Well I went out to the shop this morning and figured out what was wrong. The inside capsule, for the bright bulb, is different than the outside capsule for the bright/dim bulb and they were switched. Moved them back and they work just fine. Oh by the way they are both metal.
Replacement pot-metal housing for a 64 and up comes a little rough, and will need to be fitted into the opening to fit right. That may be what is wrong with the one you have. Depending on how it is off, it may just need to be re-worked. The previous owner may have just had a body hack do the work.
