We're all quick to complain about a bad insurance company, but how often do we publicily praise the good one? I needed to have my car towed last week when it broke down in the rain in a bad place. No, it wasn't supposed to rain and I was only 2 miles from home but aint it always that way? In my excitement, I forgot about the Hagerty towing package and called a towing company direct and had the care moved as quick as I could to safety. The correct procedure is to use the supplied number on the wallet card and follow the instructions. It plainly says in the policy if you don't then they don't have to pay. I called and explained my lack of calm thinking and apologized for not doing it right. Today a letter arrived saying the bill would be paid and instructions on what to do correctly next time. I will of course, but I felt I must tell others of the super way they responded to this and they should be recognized for it. Thanks, Hagerty.
I too called Hagerty today; they sound like a real first rate company. From what I have read here on the forum, I am sure I wont be disapointed. I really like the "agreed value" portion of their policy and they are much cheaper than my current State Farm carrier . I could not get my current agent to grant agreed value on my car, so I am moving on
I've had Hagerty coverage for a number of years, now. Never had a claim, but am confident they would provide great service if (heaven forbid) something were to happen.
I agree that Hagerty is A-1. With all the back and forth flack about the different companies and the agreed value, stated value, usage, etc. How about hearing from those who have filed a claim with any of the collector car insurers. Listing what happened and how much effort it took to get paid on the claim, and the amount of the claim. I had one claim with Hagerty for $6,000 and was paid within a week, plus I filed an add-on later for extras that it took to put the car back in the same condition. It too was paid within a week and without a hassle. Let's hear from others

I had the exact same experience. I had only had my policy a month or two, clutch went out and I just wanted on a flatbed as soon as possible. Called one I had used in the past then called Hagerty after the fact. Explained my lack of knowledge on the proper procedure and they payed my towing bill right away with no complaints.
They have been great on customer service so far (never had to make a claim, thankfully), but they literally doubled my premium this year (from $315 to $615) simply due to the fact that their new actuarial studies determined that drivers under age 26 (previously age 25) pose a disproportionately high risk to them. I have NEVER had an accident or ticket, but they would make no exception to the policy. Simply a matter of statistics and probability. I attempted to switch to Grundy but they were so impolite and unresponsive that I asked for my check & photos back and decided that Hagerty was worth the extra $300. If they do not reduce the premium this year when I turn 26, I will be forced to look elsewhere.
I too have Hagerty and have to say the are 1st class.
I had to file a claim for a $14,000 accident after only having the car for 1 month. Things went so smooth with them I wish I could use them for all my insurance needs.
They have my business for a long time and I wouldn't switch even if somebodyelse saved me a few bucks on premiums.
Hagerty wouldn't insure my vette. I own two "grocery getters", a 66 mustang and the 64 vette. The mustang is my son's regular transportation. I thought he could cut his teeth on something relatively inexpensive and it would be a neat father/son project. I tried to insure only the vette since I consider the mustang everyday transportation. Since I have three licensed drivers in the family, Hagerty required that each driver be assigned to his own specific "reliable" car. They did not consider the mustang or the vette to be reliable everyday transportation (and I agree). In other words, I would have to purchase another "reliable" car and assign that to my son. Then, they would insure the vette. Apparently they felt that I would routinely toss my teenager the keys to the midyear. I've owned the vette for nearly 30 years (my first car) and have never filed a claim with any insurance company for any car. The agreed upon value was relatively low ($22,000) and the car has been driven less than 50 miles a year for the last 20 years. So, they returned my check and the pictures. A few weeks later they called and said they reviewed my application and were now willing to make a special exception. Just send the check back and they would write a policy. I told them I wasn't interested in any insurance policy with a "special exception clause." Based on the other posts, they are obviously a reliable company but after this, I am just uncomfortable dealing with them.
no offense but proof of "every licensed driver in the household having a seperate car to drive and not the classic car" is a common underwriting criteria for collector car insurance; you would have encountered that issue at every turn, but perhaps you would not have encountered a company willing to make an exception for you.
No offense taken. I went with the USAA underwriter and they did not require me to buy another car although they were slightly more expensive. Like I said, I'm sure they are a good company, they just didn't work for me. I'm sure there are many others in my situation and other options do exist. I'm happy with my choice.
Does Hagerty restrict how many miles you can drive in a year?
When I finally do get my '63 back on the road I want to make up for the miles it hasn't gone since it came off the road in 1979. (that's a lot of miles in the bank)
I was in my '57 Chevy and gave a break to a semi driver who had himself boxed in at a merge. My reward was a flying rock that broke my windshield. Hagerty replaced it immediately with no questions asked. I also have a friend that had a claim in the $5-6000 range on a Nomad and they were very flexible in bringing it back to its original state. I increased the value on both the '57 and my '63 SWC this year with no further justification than my opinion of their worth. They are a first class company.
