Default Tachometer

My corvette has a 283 270HP dual four barrel carbureted engine.
Should the Tachometer have a 5.0 or 6.0 red lined face on it?
Thanks,
mkw

You'd probably get a faster response if you gave some indication of what year Corvette you're talking about (it matters); your post doesn't identify the year, and there's zero information in your profile for us to go by.

The 270 horse 2x4 version uses the solid-lifter "Duntov" cam, and should have a 6200 rpm redline (I think it is yellow starting at 6,000). The 5200 readline tach is used with the hydraulic-cam 245 horse 2x4 engine.

If I am remembering right the above is true for '57 through '61 2x4 cars. (During this period the HP rating of the Duntov-cam fuelies went from 283 to 290, and then to 315, but they kept the 2x4 rating at 270, I think.)
