I'm getting reay to To dye my dash but don't know if I should Dye it or paint it. I already have the dye and did my radio side panels but didn't like the results much. How have most of you done them?

Dye the vinyl parts, and paint the metal pieces.

Donn -

I dyed my radio side panels and they came out pretty good. I used the primer even though it probably wasn't necessary. I did 3 light coats of the dye & then brushed lightly with 0000 steel wool when they were thoroughly dryed.

The dash piece is Fiberglass and it has to stay in the car, a lot of tapeing and masking. So do I treat that the same as plastic?

I painted my side panels with Krylon satin and dyed my vinyl dash pads. Turned out great.

This is pretty simple. If it is soft, dye it. If it is hard, paint it. While dye will color the hard fiberglass parts, it is not the best product to use.

What finish do you use on the hard parts, dash and side panels? Semi- gloss or flat?

Thanks
Tom

Depends, on several factors. Some are the same as exterior colors and are shot in lacquer unbuffed. Some colors are interior colors only and have their own formulas. They will usually be a little more flat. Both would be considered semi. Others parts like the upper dash moulding are flat. That is usually in an area where glare is a consideration.
